Default Verizon Moto X 4.4 Soak tests are beginning which means...

It should be a matter of the next couple if weeks before we see our invites out. I'm very impressed with Motorola Mobility's focus with Google now that they are one in the same.

If we get our update before the N4 does, it would be quite a shocker. Doubt it though.

Let's hope so. I'm hoping for a Bluetooth fix so the static goes away.

This cannot be possible, because everybody says that Verizon sucks at Android updates.

Motorola allows users to test updated software before general release to everyone.

It is a test of a subset of users of a new software release that is intended to be delivered over the air. Sometimes the tests find problems that are significant enough that the software needs to be redone and recertified and tested again. Sometimes they just want to make sure that the update will not cause failures when delivered to phones. In order to become a tester for Motorola hardware, you need to be a part of the Motorola Feedback Network. You can find out about that here:

So does this mean the moto x will probably be getting 4.4 before the nexus 4? :/

Well, no. I mean, the Nexus 4 already has the official image available for download from Google for users to load on their own. Given that it is already up for download, the actual OTA for the Nexus 4 should be coming out very soon (but everything is "coming soon").

The Moto X should have the OTA ready by the end of the year, hopefully. It is interesting to see this soak test going out before the Nexus 4 has gotten an actual OTA, though.

Oy vey! Here comes a whole new crop of rooted noobs taking the update. I suspect I'll just pull out of the boards at the first sign. If the last update was any indication....

So agree with this statement. I am for rooting, but when I start reading the "update" posts, they turn into highjacked threads of "Well, I forgot to cancel the upgrade since I was rooted and now I have this issue...". Please create another thread with "root problems with update" to distinguish for regular users or go to xda.

Great idea. I also plan of being of absolutely no assistance to users who require help.

Moto X will get it sooner. More likely by December 1st should be complete roll out if soak emails went out. Soak test usually last from 48 hours to a week. Case in point, the latest camera fix update on the maxx.

Soak tests are typically the group that gets to test the installation of the update. If the update causes catastrophic bugs, such as boot loops, on non rooted/modified devices, the update gets halted. Otherwise, they proceed to push it out to all devices. Soak test software is essentially the final software release.

Bluetooth static? Mine is very clear in my BMW. It also works well with my Creative Labs speaker... I walked downstairs while streaming music and my girlfriend said it still sounded fine. (David Bowie narrates Prokofiev's Peter & the Wolf, Op. 67.)

Are you sure? I'm not saying you're wrong but its a faint static that quite a few if us notice with any Bluetooth device. I've tried portable speakers, headphones and even my 2012 Acura TSX w/ ELS sound system and I hear it. I have a loaner 2013 Acura TL right now and I can hear it. Plug it in to any headphone/AUX and issue disappears. Never had this on any phone before.

Saw a news article today that 4.4 for Moto X is rolling out starting today on Verizon. Gives me that much more hope that we could see it on the MAXX by Christmas.

Read that they skipped the soak test because it leaked out, I guess they just said screw it.

Try before. I'm estimating December 1st. Remember, the Moto X software is pretty much the same on the Droid Lines.

Great news. Wondering what issues this will bring for rooted users.

This past update was a gutted mess. Too many different threads across multiple forums. It was definitely a proverbial cluster ****.

    Can't wait to see pics.

Yeah, but only for the rooters mostly! Again, I wish we could split the boards so that the non-rooters don't have to read every panicked post and wondering if it's going to happen to them only to discover that, no, this is for roots.

I doubt it'll start rolling out for the 2013 DROID line before all the Moto X models. AT&T, T-Mobile/unbranded, Sprint, and US Cellular users are still waiting.

I totally agree. Rooted users having problems don't seem to read the documentation or forums on xda, which normally state to unroot before updating or decline the update. And then the posts related to normal update problems get highjacked with their issues for ignoring instructions. (And yes, I am for rooting, but please educate yourself before you change the phone.)

At this point I really think that you should only root with a dev edition phone - especially now that they stay under warranty if you unlock the bootloader.
