Phone Crashing after hitting Space on Keyboard

I have a Motorola Droid Pro with Gingerbread. Lately I have noticed it crashing when I type, in any app. It usually happens after I hit space. Once it crashed, I Force Close whatever app I am in and then it works fine. I have noticed the problem happening more and more lately. Now its to the point that as soon as I type in 1 word and hit space, the app will crash. First it pauses while the cursor flashes, then a few seconds later, I get the prompt to Force Close or Wait. Kind of frustrating since other bugs have been coming from this new version. I haven't installed anything new. The only thing I can try now is doing a factory reset.

Any others notice this problem?

Wow I just posted this same problem. Started for me this weekend. Sorry about the duplicate post.

And how would I go about doing a factory reset.. and would it cause everything to be deleted? I was thinking about downgrading back to Froyo.

oh its fine. This phone has a small user base anyhow! I'm really getting tired of this phone and its gotten so much slower with GB. When I search for a contact, at times the search will freeze up. And when I click to view a contact, it sometimes freezes there before I can hit call, delaying the whole process by like 15 seconds. I can't wait to upgrade.

If you hit menu, SETTINGS, PRIVACY, you will see the option to reset it. And yes all your information will be deleted. Once you open the market, your phone will download all the apps you had installed before. But you need to setup your notifications again, options for each app (unless they have a backup feature), and setup your home screen icons again. One thing I miss about my BB was the ability to backup all this information without "rooting" and using a 3rd party app.

Hopefully someone knows why this is happening. But I think I need to format it anyhow because of the slowness. I am also thinking of downgrading back to Froyo. Do you know where the update.zip file can be found for it?

How about my contacts and everything on my memory card? Are the contacts just backed up by the backup program? And will this reset put it back to Froyo? Guessing not?

Looks like I may have figured out how to cure this spacebar issue. Try this and tell me if it fixes yours:

Settings > Language & Keyboard > Multi-Touch Keyboard
(I removed all check marks under this.. specifically I'm thinking the option "Highlight Words".)

It looks as if my txting and anything else requiring the spacebar is now working again. Lemme know how it works for you.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

Not sure if this is a permanent fix, however, I haven't had any problems with my keyboard since doing the following:

1. Go into "Settings" > "Language & Keyboard" > "Multi-touch Keyboard" > "Input Languages"
2. Select "English (United States)" or whatever language you prefer.
3. That's it!

Not sure why, but when I went into the "Input Languages" menu for the first time, there were NO languages selected at all. After selecting English (United States), things seem to be working fine with my keyboard.

I got this phone BECAUSE of the candybar design and Blackberry-like keyboard, so when it's not working, it's pretty frustrating.

Hope this was of some help. I'll report back in a few days and let you guys know if anything changes.

Lol @ Jersey...my bad man. No disrespect intended.

You having any luck with your DP Keyboard???

Haven't had any problems since doing the language thing earlier today.

i tried what jersey said and that worked out great!! so then i went back one by one to see which is the problem. For me it was the "Next Word Prediction" option that gives this error. Everything else can stay on, as long as this option is off.

QuickBrown, I tried your ticket, that didn't work for me.

Anyhow, thanks everyone for saving me a reformat.

Mine has been working alright since the change. Maybe it's a few GB glitches that are causing different issues...

OMG! Thank you guys. Mine was the suggestion option as well. I had this problem a few days before this post came out, reformatted my phone, and now again (today) it stopped working correctly again. I went to Verizon to get a replacement so I could just go back to Froyo and perhaps get a working phone since all I do is text. They're sending me a certified like new because I'm a day over my 14 day return policy. Now that it's fixed, I'm SO happy!
