Default Annoying typing bug on the Pro

Does anyone know how to fix this annoying little bug:

Whenever I type a dollar sign, the symbol is placed against the end of the preceding word, not to the beginning of the new one. For instance:

"it is $10" always comes out as "it is$ 10"

I've tried everything to stop that from happening, but nothing shy of typing it, then going back to delete it gets rid of that. Of course spacing twice places a period, so that doesn't help.

    Any ideas??

Haven't experienced that problem. Maybe this is a dumb question, but are you hitting the space key before you type the $ sign?

try typing something with a dollar sign right now on your phone. Make sure there is a word before it, and let me know what the result is. maybe its just my Pro.

I stand corrected...mine does the same thing. However, hit the space bar twice before you type the $ sign...that solves the problem.

I can't. If I do that then it creates a period after the last word.

You're right. Mine inserted a period when I spaced the second time. Well, what next?

I don't know. I think its an outright bug. Anyone know enough about android programing to come up with a little app that auto fixes it?

Interesting bug....just confirmed it on my Pro as well. I tested with a number of other special characters and the following all do the same strange formatting of appending the character to the preceding word:

    . , $ * / ! & ~ @ % ? +

I can understand some of them (like a period, comma, exclamation point and question mark), but not the others. I never noticed this before, now I'm going to be obsessed with finding a solution......

Just heard from a Moto Expert. They had the same problem on the Droid X. The last upgrade for that phone fixed the problem. Hopefully the first (next) upgrade for the Pro will fix the problem on the Pro.

As a side note. We could type "I paid_$40.00 for that item". That at least separates the $ from the word in front of the $ sign.

Hmm....assuming that upgrade happens three years from now, which is a good assumption, is there a macro that we can put in that will automatically make that button on the keypad insert a SPACE$ instead of a $? Its a roundabout way but the does fix the problem.

I too have recently noticed this, but only after reading this thread. I typically type "20 bux" instead of $20.

The Droid X used to have a similar bug. But I haven't seen it on a non-Motorola android device.

I have the same issue. it's very annoying b/c I use the "&" character quite a bit.

I have a similar problem typing in the official Twitter app, except it types multiple letters. For example, if I want to type Twitter, it will give me TTwitter. Pretty annoying, but this is only in the twitter app, and actually only after it went through that huge update..

He's right! Woot! They also fixed this annoying "doubling up" bug that would type out the first letter of an entry twice. All the typing bugs seem to be gone. Its nice but a shame that a simple thing like this couldn't have been fixed with a quick patch of some sort 6 months ago.
