I'm sure someone will figure it out before long, just as it was with 2.0.1

Possible? yes. Likely? Depends on what your definition of near future is.

I agree that it was faster and easier to root 2.1 than 2.0.1.

I have been following the videos cory posted above in the forum. I understand the 2.1 root process, my question is do I need to do nandroid backup as well? or can I just jump to the installing custom roms video?
Thanks - 05-06-2010, 01:09 PM #11
I'd say just use ROM manager and it can make backups for you.

How can you guys possibly say it's easier to root 2.1 than 2.0.1? I achieved root in 2.0.1 by installing the SMUpdater app and letting it do all the work.
There must be something I'm missing here.
UPDATE:
I went ahead and rooted 2.1. It is not difficult at all. Even so, it's still requires a lot more work than rooting 2.0.1Last edited by thomascj; 05-06-2010 at 02:31 PM.

Its not harder just different. With 2.0,1 you are using an app on your phone to do it. With 2.1 your using a program on your computer. If your not able to access a computer when you want to root then it will obviously not be able to be done but they aren't too different in concept.
