Manual install instructions a faster install is at the bottom of this post
Devices you’ll need:
Droid
PC
USB to micro USB cable
Winrar or 7zip will be needed
Applications you’ll need: all found in the market
Titanium Backup *ROOT* (this is optional)
Rom Manager
Rom Manager (premium)
SetCPU
Files you’ll need: Save all of these in an easy access location and remember which file is which.
Froyo FRF57
Baseband-update 1 ß rename Baseband-update1
Baseband-update 2 ß Rename Baseband-update 2
Pete's Baseband <-- rename this Pete's Baseband
Kernel (CPU speed) pick only one:
800MHz
900MHz
1GHz ß recommended as highest
1.1GHz
1.25GHz
Backing up your current apps and app data. (this is optional)
Go to settings>applications>development>usb debugging and select
Open Titanium Backup (allow it root access upon open)
Select the problems? Button and allow it to download busybox
Re-open titanium upon finish>Backup/restore>menu (haptic)> Batch> Backup all user apps + systemdata> then run the batch operation
Wait for completion. Then turn of debugging the same way you turned it on
Preping device for Froyo:
Open ROM Manager (allow root access)
At the top, choose to flash clockworkmod recovery> Motorola Droid (CDMA)
Then scroll down and select “Backup current ROM” and just name it Backup6-8-2010 then hit ok and allow it to make a full backup of your device.
When device reboots open ROM manager and scroll down to “Flash alternate Recovery” and select then hit “ok”
Flashing Froyo:
Locate the Froyo FRF57 file (.zip format) and extract it using either winrar or 7zip
This will give you a new folder with three files in it (boot, nandroid, system) rename this new folder Froyo_FRF57
Attach droid to PC and place the Froyo_FRF57 file in the nandroid folder on your sd card. Then disconnect your droid from your PC
Open Rom Manager and select reboot into recovery. It will ask you if you want to reboot into SPrecovery, hit “ok”
Once open use the volume down button to highlight and the camera button to select “backup/restore”
Select advanced nandroid restore>choose backup>Froyo_FRF57>Perform Restore.
Allow it to run and reboot. Now you have Froyo FRF57 on your device.
Optimizing Froyo on your Droid:
Aattch your droid to your PC
Copy Basband-update 1 and baseband-update 2 to the uppermost folder of your sdcard. You’ll see other folders like clockworkMod and nandroid in this folder.
Detach your droid from your PC
Open ROM manager and select flach clockworkmod then Motorola droid (CDMA).
Select “install ROM from SD card” and locate Baseband-update 1 and select it. Don’t create a backup or wipe data and cache. Select “ok”
Allow program to run and it will likely reboot. When it wakes up you may have to resign in to your google account.
Open Rom Manager again and select “install ROM from sd card”
Select baseband-update 2 and do the same steps.
Backing up your New Froyo setup:
Open Rom manager
Select “Backup Current ROM” and Name it Froyo_FRF57
Overclocking your Droid with a custom Kernel:
Locate the Kernel that you downloaded in the previous list. And rename it update.zip (if it is already a .zip file then name it update)
Connect your Droid to your PC and copy the new update.zip file to the uppermost folder on your sd card where you put the baseband updates.
Disconnect your droid from your PC
Open ROM manager
choose “Install ROM Ffrom SD Card.”
select update.zip
don’t create a backup or “wipe data and cache.”
Allow the phone to reboot into recovery and install your new kernel.
The phone will Reboot the phone and BAM! All done.
When your phone wakes open SetCPU and and chose autodetect
Slide the max all the way to 1GHz
Then select Profiles:
And you can use this setup:
my CPU profiles are:
Charging = 1GHz -250MHz
Sleep = 400MHz - 250MHz
<85% = 900MHz -250MHz
<74% = 800MHz -250MHz
<40% = 600MHz -250MHz
>38.2degrees = 400MHz -250MHZ
Advanced setting: Power save bias = 250
save settings and select set on boot. And you're done.
Backing up your New Froyo setup:
Open Rom manager
Select “Backup Current ROM” and Name it Backup6-9-2010
Must be done after you install froyo
Flash 10.1 Beta
download:
then connect your droid to your PC
move the downloaded file to your sdcard
disconnect your droid
go to settings> applications> check the unknown sources box and then agree.
open astro file manager (found in the market)
select "sd card" (if not already open) and select the file, then select app manager then install
Chrome-To-Phone
Open Google chrome if you haven't already.
go to this link and hit install
download the android app here:
then connect your droid to your PC
move the downloaded file to your sdcard
disconnect your droid
go to settings> applications> check the unknown sources box and then agree.
open astro file manager (found in the market)
select "sd card" (if not already open) and select the file, then select app manager then install
Open the Chrome to Phone app, and select “register device.”
Once it finishes, you are done.
Now navigate to a website on your Chrome browser, and tap the cell phone extension button.
It will likely ask you to login to a Google account. Login with whatever acct you registered.

Quick Froyo install with ROM Manager
*What you'll need:*
Rooted Droid
ROM Manager - Downloadable for free from market

*Instructions:*
1.) Open ROM Manager
2.) Click DOWNLOAD ROM
3.) Go to STOCK IMAGES
4.) Click VERIZON DROID 2.2 FROYO LEAK
- The app will start to download the files needed to install Froyo
5.) After it has completed downloading it will pop up a dialog box asking if you'd like to Backup ROM and Wipe Data. I recommend selecting both BACKUP EXISTING ROM and WIPE DATA AND CACHE as this will give you a backup point in case something goes wrong and will also allow you to have a fresh from scratch firmware installed.
6.) Hit OK

The phone will now reboot and do all the work for you. Once it completes it will restart and you should be running Android 2.2 FRF57 with Root!

I'm actually thinking about making a video on this so there is a visual for people. It all depends if I can figure out a way to stabilize my webcam. Its a cheap one so idk how its going to come out.

I followed your directions, now I have a Droid Eye boot loop. Eye flashes three times then rewrites Droid.

I have a 2.1 backup, so I can fix, it. Any advice?

I'm new to rooting, so I have a few additional questions.

Are these instructions for a stock phone, with no other mods?

Also do you need both versions of ROM Manager (Free and Premium) or just one of the two?

i'm not real sure if the premium version is required. just check and make sure that you can "flash clockworkmod" and SPrecovery ("flash alternate recovery" at the bottom of rom manager) as well as "install ROM from sdcard" and most importantly "Backup Your current ROM". if you can do this then the premium is not needed. I have the premium. so i was unsure of what secondary features are unlocked.

These instructions are assuming you have root access already. so if you do not and you have a stock droid running 2.1 you'll need to follow these instructions:

I got it to work. I did do a data wipe, but after the first two attempts, I just got to the point of "Select advanced nandroid restore>choose backup>Froyo_FRF57>Perform Restore." but didn't select Froyo_FRF57. I let it finish and rebooted and it started right up.

Hi Cory! (I'm a newbie - apologizing in advance). I'll give you the short notes: I Rooted my Droid, went to Froyo 2.2 (via droid-life.com instructional videos) went to change my baseband and added Rom manager then tried to install. Finally, losing my root access. Is there a simple solution as I've been working on it for a few hours. Thanks.

PS. Found the update.zip file that was supposed to recover the SPRecovery but unable to get it to run. Any ideas?

Is the superuser.apk completely absent from your launcher? or is it just not functioning?

I have the superuser permissions icon (I know my terminology is off but I only started rooting yesterday so there is only 15 hours experience. LOL!) and when I hit it - it goes the a blank screen then I can got to settings.

do you have any root applications on your droid? (setCPU, titanium Backup, better terminal, cachemate,...) because superuser.apk doesn't do anything unless you have something installed to take advantage of root access. and easy way to see if you have root is if you open up better terminal and type "su" and hit "enter". if their isnt an error of anykind you have root access.

Can I check it another way without better terminal? I had installed titanium Backup but deleted it before I tried to do the upgrade. When I try to do the recovery in Rom it changes to the Motorola M and gets stuck.

download any root required application and try to run it. if it asks you for details for root access select "allow". then go back to the homescreen and open the superuser.apk

yes, very good. their should be a little green icon next to it. if it has anything else, select it and give it root access manually and walla. ROM manager now has Root access.

I can see in the walkthrough where Petes Baseband is added to SD and installed, but what about update1 and update2? It says to download them, but never mentions doing anything with them.
