Default froyo battery issue is the display?

So I have used a couple different froyo roms (BB, kangerade, and now chevvy). All of them have been quick and usable but each one had certain hiccups. The one thing I found in common with all three roms was the shorter battery life. When checking what is draining the battery so much it is always the display. I have my brightness either turned off or at auto. Do you think it is possible that the froyo builds just have not perfected display battery usage yet? I know froyo is not finalized.

Is anyone else experiencing this in all roms or any one rom? Any froyo rom that you get to last a day?

Ps. Just today my batt is at 60% now and it says 40% of that is display, when my phone has mostly been locked and the wireless tether running for an hour. So obviously the tether is what used my battery. Maybe the usage is incorrect??

I've noticed the shorter life, too and inevitably display is always the culprit for me. I've noticed that with all the Froyo builds I've tried, the screen, sometimes, will not sleep. It will dim to almost sleeping, but not quite until I press the lock button...

Who knows. But the Froyo source was released a little bit ago so maybe we'll see an improvement.

I have the best battery life that I've ever had running the Kangerade rom with P3's 800MHz kernel.

Been off the charger for 5 hrs and have 90% battery life left with minimal useage.
    Android OS- 28%
    Wifi- 16%
    Phone Idle- 18%
Display - 13% (only been on for a total of 11min)
    Cell Standby- 12%

Lol... I wake up and take my Droid off the charger and before I'm at work I'm down to 80 or 90 %!!

I'm actually getting awesome battery life with my droid. Today, with a lot of usage, and by a lot i mean an hour of calls, an hour or more of Raging Thunder 2, browsing the internet for 30 mins or so, display being on for over 2 hours and the random texting, I'm at 50% with about 8 hours off the charger(slow day at work, lol). With minimal usage, i get about 25 hours or so before it completely dies.

I'm using Team Chaos's froyo rom overclocked with Chevy's ultra low voltage kernal at 900mhz.

Going on 12 hrs and have 70% battery left with light usage (15min phone call and about 45min of web browsing). Think the battery gauge is broken. lol. May just leave it unplugged all night to see how long it'll make it.

    Few questions for you...

    Which ROM are you using?
    What kernel are you using?
    What are your SetCPU settings?
Are you using a Task Killer or Battery Saver (i.e. Juice Defender)?
Have you tried BBv0.2.1 and if so, how does it compare to this ROM (performance wise and battery life)?

    Thanks.

I used ADW launcher on BBv0.1 and 0.2 and it seems smoother on Kangerade. Other than that, performance is about the same with battery life being slightly better than what I had with bugless beast

    updated version now available

thought it was low voltage but guess not

    SetCPU:
    Charging- 600/250
    Sleep/Standby- 550/250
    Power >100- 800/250
    Power <50- 600/250
    Failsafe- < 50.0C - 550/250

    Misc:
Wifi on all day, sleep policy set to never
Display settings- Autobrightness and 30sec timeout
    No task killers or anything
Beautiful Widgets updates location via gps every 2 hrs
Facebook refresh set to 4 hrs
    TFLN/FML widgets updating every 24hrs

    Well I'm running BBv0.2.1 with Chevy's ULV 1.25GHz kernel.

    My SetCPU settings:
    Standard - 550/250
    Charging - 550/250
    Sleep/Standby - 250/250

    Misc:
Wifi sleep policy set to never
    15 second timeout/Autobrightness disabled
Facebook refresh set to six hours
No widgets (except for Power Control)

I'm not getting the same battery life as you so I'm wondering if it's the kernels. Does P3's have better battery life than Chevy's? Also, do you find P3's to be cooler when in use? Chevy's LV kernels get really hot when clocked around 1-1.25GHz.

I've noticed as far as temps that P3 seems the coolest to the touch, chevy slightly warmer and i even went back to BB1.1 and tried bekit and that was oddly enough the hottest for me, so it may have to do w/ the kernel but it could be other factors as well.

I've only used p3 and jdlfg. Believe I've only gone over 100F a couple times and that was with heavy usage or using google nav. I usually stick with 800MHz kernels as the maximum cause I haven't noticed any performance boosts in my normal every day activities.

Switched to Kangerade V1 and am using jdlfg's 1.2GHz kernel for now. So far, I've noticed it's a little bit faster and more responsive than BB. I think battery life is a little better as well but can't comment much on that yet.

So my second day on chevvys rom and I had to charge my phone mid day, granted I did use wireless tether for an hour so I cant really fault that. I feel that with normal or minimal usage this rom and kernal combo might make it a full day but since I go to the gym every day I am always using youtube for 30 min or music for an hour.

I am really impressed with some of your battery life responses. 70% after 12 hours is crazy! or 80% with some of that heavy usage is awesome! I think I will see if these mentioned Roms work as well for me.

If it matters I didnt wipe data when I went from kangerade to chevvy, maybe i'll do that tonight and give chevy one more shot? Or maybe I'll try the team chaos. Keep the feedback coming this is pretty good.

Still chugging along. Up to just 25 hrs with 50% still remaining. Sat from about 10pm last night to 8am this morning completely idle. Battery left is actually 50% in notification bar in the image below, initial version of the rom only showed increments of 20.

Well that is just impressive, do you actually use the phone? LOL. If my new combo of chaos froyo rom and chevys 1.1ghz low volt kernal doesnt impress me I will be trying your set up. I really like that nextheme and that blue one you have seems awesome.

Keep us updated on how long your phone goes. It could be like the Isner tennis match.

yeah, that's with light usage. Maybe 30 min worth of phone calls and 10-15 emails and about 45min of browsing throughout the day. I'm gonna see how long it goes with minimal usage today and then see if I can kill it in 2 hours tomorrow. haha.

ok, finally plugging it in on 10% after 29.5 hrs. Used it a little more this morning than yesterday. Screen has been on a total of 2 hours.
