Exclamation Might have bricked my droid

    Ok, here goes:
After updating ROM Manager via Market and was trying perform a ROM backup. During reboot my Droid displayed the Exclamation Point-Triangle icon and froze there. Unable to power it off, I did a battery pull and it stopped at the same screen. I went back here: and performed those steps as described but the phone didn't automatically reboot after installing the update.zip so I manually rebooted. Phone came up but I apparently am not able to activate it as it keeps looping between the Welcome to Droid and Activate screens. I then followed these steps: http://forum.androidcentral.com/moto...using-sbf.html and am in the same situation. Not sure what to do now.

    Please HELP!!???!!!

You didn't brick it but you screwed something up. Just try to activate your phone if unable call Verizon from another phone and tell them your unable to activate your phone. They will manually do it with you. To bypass the activation tap the top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left

Good to know I didn't screw up too bad. I'll call them in a few, a couple more questions though:
What do I tell them happened? Or does it matter? I know the warranty wouldn't cover it just don't want any more trouble than is necessary.
Considering it seems like its a Verizon/Account issue, I should be able to use the Droid-Life instructions to install rooted 2.1, right? If so, would it make a difference to do it before or after talking with Verizon?

    Thanks!

Makes no difference what you tell them I just said I was unable to activate my phone. And they did the activation for me.

Thanks! I was able to get the phone activated.

Here is where my phone is at now:
    Firmware: 2.0.1
    Baseband: C_01.3E.01P
    Kernel: 2.6.29-omap1-g0dd7e0b(android-build@apa26 #511)
    Build#: ESD56

What is the best way to get from here to rooted 2.2? I tried downloading the "Root My 201 Droid.zip" from here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/moto...html#post47303 but was told it is no longer available.

Also, admittedly I am quite new to all this stuff, but is it 'normal' for an update to ROM Manager to do something like this? Everything was working great until I took the update then tried performing a ROM backup.

I think I may have found how to get to 2.1 (), but I'm not sure this is the most efficient way to get to my desired end result.

Please advise if this will work or if there is another, more efficient way.

    Thanks again!

Yeah, I'd prefer to not have to activate again, if possible.
