problem downloading attachments

Having problem downloading attachments with default email app. When clicked on the app says it is 'fetching' the document but often never works. I can go to a browser based client for, say yahoo mail or comcast mail and the attachment is quickley downloaded. Any thoughts why the defaut email app is having this problem?

The kind or size of the attachment does not seem to matter. Pdf, jpg doc.
