gmail stops updating long email thread

has anyone ever had a problem with the gmail app where the conversation thread stops updating after there are many replies? it'll show a new email has come in, it'll even preview it, but when i click on the thread, it shows my old email. a temp solution has been to uninstall updates to gmail, but then the factory copy starts having the same problem after a bit

I haven't seen this but the most I've ever had in a conversation was a thread of 20. Did you attempt to clear the cache in Settings > Apps > Gmail? I know you did an uninstall of the update but try this.
