Droid ULTRA led not working

Since I got this phone, my LED hasn't been working, and from what different (strangely negative) reviews said, there is a notification LED, but it's just not functioning for me. Have I misunderstood the existence of the LED or....

the device uses Active Notifications instead of an LED. There is an LED built into the screen, but it is ONLY used for when the battery is completely dead. It comes on to show the phone is charging.

Correct, by default, you will only see the LED if you drain the battery so low that the screen won't power on. There are some hacks if you're rooted to allow more functionality. Look over on XDA.
