Anyone a Geocacher?
My father and I Geocache all the time, and his Droid is extremely accurate GPS, even more so than his Garmin Rhino he says. It will be interesting to see if the X compares with the GPS.

My father got my Droid X, my stepmother has a Droid 2, and I'm using a rooted Fascinate, swapping out lots of roms. - 07-10-2010, 08:02 PM #2

It's all based of that website you put up, but theres like conventions and such where you meet up with other cachers, and when you start getting friends and family in on it, its like a little competition.

Not a geocacher, but I geotag all of the photos I take of fish I catch on my trips. Glad to see the X has a tag feature on the camera.

Soon to be ex-GeoCache Navigator user
I've been a Blackberry user for 2 years now and have given up on the platform. I'm counting down the days to make the android jump and swap my Storm 1 for a Droid X - actually hours is more like it. Geocaching is a great activity and excuse to get the kids off the TV and out into the real world. I loved Trimble's GeoCache Navigator - you can in the field access previous logs from past visitors, access the hints the hider left, and record your findings via field notes. I have researched a little into GeoBeagle as it sounds like the nearest substitute. Anybody have prior experience with Navigator and is currently using GeoBeagle or any other program for comparison?

I am slow to get in here, but I tried two apps on my Droid and they are super!
I prefer the free GeoBeagle because of the way it interfaces with the geocaching.com site. I now much prefer my Droid to my Garmin collection and that is kind of sad. I have a Garmin GPSMAP60CS and my Droid will smoke it for accuracy and locking in on a destination. The Google mapping is wonderful as well. I just wish I had a couple of spare batteries as the gps seems to drain the phone battery pretty quickly, four hours or so normally. If I am rural caching where we drive a few miles between caches so it can recharge some, life is good!
I also bought the Cachemate app and it works great as well. It is really nice with both apps to be able to run a pocket query, download it into the phone off an email, then open it with Cachemate or GeoBeagle. No entering of coordinates at all and everything is so fluid with these apps, it is a beautiful thing!
GeoBeagle has an internal link to Geocaching.com and when you take that link, it shows the caches closest to your current location. I really enjoy the benchmark side of the site as well. By checking every once in a while through GeoBeagle, I have managed to snag some really interesting benchmarks. Before, I had to search them out before I left the house. This is wonderful! Enjoy!I think the X will be next in a long line of Moto-fonz... - 07-12-2010, 10:03 AM #19
I added c:geo to my phone. Havent gotten a chance to try it yet but I played around with it. It seems very user friendly. I will start shortly. Looks like alot of fun!

I will definitely be adding GeoBeagle when I get my X.

It works awesome on my Droid, not nearly as much circle walking as I am used to with my Garmins. Generally, it will hold its zero very close, the dancing number game is one I do not miss. Another part I really like is the log as you go, no more getting home and trying to sort through what I did at 25 locations during the day.

Add another cacher to the list. I just found number 500 the other day while using my droid for the first time while caching. I was testing out cachmate, GeoBeagle and c:geo. I love cachemate since I used it on my old palm pilot. Geobeagle kinda sucks but c:geo isn't too bad. I was amazed to find out how much better the GPSr on my droid was over my Gamin 60cs. I had one in each hand and the Droid only let me down once.
Its so nice not needing to load caches onto the GPSr and palm via computer and then carrying them into the field. Now everything can be done right from the droid with no need for a computer. - 08-19-2010, 01:06 AM #23

Re: Anyone a Geocacher?
Add me to the list of cachers. My Sister and her family took me on a cache adventure and now I am hooked. I use the program from GEOCACHING.COM. I used c:geo but it didn't seem to zero me in on the cache.
I am up to only a mere 12 caches...but I am only a week into it.With this RAZR, I get a close shave

Re: Anyone a Geocacher?
Had the Geocaching.com app on my Storm2 but didn't want to drop another $10 to repurchase for my Droid X. Tried c:geo with little success. Started using NeonGeo a few months ago and it works great!

I have seen this app in action on another Android phone, so I wanted to let you guys know about it.
