Need to find a Droid X, Walmart has a bunch of them!
Just like the title says, I was just at a Wal Mart by my house (Bloomingdale, IL) and they had 3 left. Most are 24hrs or open till Midnight, so if you wanted one and it was sold out everywhere WalMart might be your best option.

been sayin this for awhile...I just watched a video of a LONG line that was waiting for a midnight store to open for hours. I rolled out of bed...drove to Wal-Mart and bought one of two and no one else was even there...lol
Prolly the luckiest I'll get in awhile (referring to technology of course) - 07-15-2010, 10:58 PM #3

My new every two is Aug 1. I intend to by two Droid X, one for me one for my wife. What is the downside of buying from Walmart and renewing the contract there apposed to going to the Verizon store? Anybody know?
Do you loose the capability to deal with the Verizon store later? How about VZW online account and payment, do you pay Walmart or still pay Verizon? - 07-18-2010, 03:23 PM #5

I live right next to it and visit quite a bit....this was a manager or someone who should know as he's been there quite awhile. Said something about carrying Apple but not the Droids. I'm gonna call again out of curiosity.
Edit: Called up and they said they 'don't sell Verizon.' And he had no clue about the phone. This was a supercenter BTW. And the guy was rude as h*ll. LOL.Last edited by burwil; 07-18-2010 at 03:48 PM. Reason: update

So can we confirm that Wal-Mart honors the NE2 discount?
- 07-18-2010, 04:32 PM #10
There are some advantages to buying from Wal-Mart:
- No activation fee
- No mail-in rebate
- No restocking fee if returned within 15 days
- No annoying Verizon store sales people
Since they link into Verizon's system, I reckon you could use your NE2, but if they don't see that option they might have to call a VZ rep.

Does anyone know if Walmart can honor the early upgrade to Droid X promo that Verizon has? I had to order thru the phone to get it since my upgrade is 8/1/10, but like many others my order "got stuck" and now I'm waiting until the 23rd or so.
I called the Walmart in my city and they have them in stock, so I was just going to ask Verizon to cancel my order and please move my upgrade date up to today, but they refuse! It's less than two weeks away, but I've talked to 2 different reps and they won't do it. - 07-18-2010, 08:35 PM #12

Bestbuy $699
Verizon $569
Walmart $530 i got mine there and the guy at Walmart was loud "You are now a proud owner of a Droid X" i was like uhhhh- i need to gtfo here... - 07-18-2010, 09:32 PM #14
You can use your NE2 at Walmart, you can also do the early upgrade as well, but the guy said you have to have an email or letter saying you're eligible for the "smartphone upgrade". The one where if you are eligible for an upgrade anytime this year you can upgrade now to the Droid.

And its $199 with 2 year contract. No hassle with the mail in rebate.

Im a lucky one that got mine at Walmart on the 14th, a day before the official launch.
Well anyways, I called in a few days later to see if they had any in stock because I planned to return mine and try an get a replacement to see if the replacement was having any issues like mine is having now. Well, a guy picks up and I ask him "hey there I got my Droid X there a few days ago and was wondering if you happen to have any in stock because I was going to exchange mine for a different one if you did cause Im having issues with mine". He asked "What?" like he had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I repeated my question and he proceeded to lecture me about how they only sell them on a 2 yr contract now. I kept telling the guy that I purchased mine at full retail price and he wouldnt listen to me. I had no idea why the hell the guy was blabbering about something I didnt ask about. He kept cutting me off when I'd try an ask him a question and then he hangs up on me...
My experience with Walmarts phone department has been terrible and its the one and only time Ive ever bought a device from there. Well, come tomorrow, Im bringing mine back in, returning it and taking my business somewhere else. Long story short - Terrible customer service with lack of knowledge as well as extremely rude AND with a terrible return policy.
P.S. Oh and also, today I went into a verizon wireless store to get a case for my phone. I wanted to see if they had a device on the floor to mess around with and they did so I decided to see if it was any different then mine in terms of responsiveness and speed. The home screen not only scrolled from screen to screen really smoothly, opening apps/anything was extremely smooth which is really odd because Im having nothing but issues with mine being slow and sluggish. Not sure if they get different devices or not but Im returning mine.Last edited by bart151; 07-18-2010 at 10:13 PM.

Now having said that, I will probably call Wal-Mart tomorrow to see if they have any in stock, because nowhere else around me has them, and I simply cannot wait.

I am a WalMart associate and trained in the connection center.
Certain WalMarts do carry the Droid X. We have two stores in my town of Las Cruces New Mexico but only my store carries them. The other store carries AT&T, therefore their store carries and drives sales for the iPhone. My store has 2 in stock and surprisingly no one has asked about them except me. Just to clarify some details.
Primary has to be there, not "authorized users"
NE2 Discounts are not given.
You can only receive the 2yr Upgrade price if you are eligible for an upgrade (20 months into contract) or adding a new line of service.
1yr Early Upgrades cannot be done
---UNLESS you are eligible thru the Smartphone Early Upgrade offered to customers but you have to call Customer Service prior to visit in order for system to recognized the upgrade eligibility
No rebates on phones. (Droid X is currently 199.99)
There IS an ACTIVATION FEE of $35 that will appear on the next bill (unless of course there is a special going on where ACTFee is waived)
And we can add insurance if needed but edits to accounts are limited because of our system. Associate is able to call Verizon Customer Service on your behalf as an Indirect Agent and help in changing any info you need. - 07-19-2010, 01:44 AM #20
Sorry you had a bad encounter with an associate but we aren't all like that. Some lucky stores get people that are very knowledgeable. The team at my is very well informed and like to train and learn about our phones.
And the comment prior about the "Terrible Return Policy"? What's so bad about it? You have 15 days to return the phone with receipt and we call Verizon on your behalf to cancel the line or account. I don't see the problem there. We give you a paper to sign clarifying this information and that you fully understand the commitment. - 07-19-2010, 06:11 AM #21
slightly off topic but what is best buys return policy? i have a case i bought for my incredible but realized i had it for over 30 days, will they still take it back for store credit with or without receipt?
funny story about the walmart too, i rolled out of bed and got my droid x from a vzw store at 7pm. they sold out of 60, then got 20 in right before i got there
and i suck at luck!
- 07-19-2010, 07:51 AM #22
The problem is "only 15 days". That's hardly enough time to do jack crap with the device. 30 days is more like it and more acceptable. And also since your an associate of walmart how do the exchanges work? Let's say i wanted to take my phone in today which i intend on doing and ask to exchange it for a new one because im having issues with the one im using now. How do they go about doing that? Any issues?

I just called my local Wal-Mart and they have a handful of them in stock. I am thinking about going to get one and see if they will give it to me for $99 like Verizon will. If not, I guess I will have to wait for them to start shipping again.
- 07-19-2010, 03:32 PM #25
15 days isn't enough to know if you like your phone? Well I guess every has their own opinion on what a "good" return policy is. Anywho if you would like the exchange the device it has to be within those 15 days and undamaged. We just process the return very easily, and give you the phone you like. If it's the same phone its just a straight exchange or if it may be a different phone the differences are either refunded if lower priced or a difference is owed if the phone is higher in price. You get another 15 days with the new receipt. We call the carrier and do the ESN switch and any changes to the plan if needed.
