I was half tempted to pull it after the ***** at walmart was trying to figure out how to put in the battery. Thankfully I was able to grab the device and insert the battery before it got pulled.

This is bullsh/t because mine never even came with a tab! I watched the battery removal video on Androidcentral.com before I even attempted the battery pull and then when I opened my X, it had no tab at all. I had to use a credit card to get the battery out. Should I call Moto or Verizon and explain this to them?

I can't believe that crap. Mine's still in but that's just BS to have it void your warranty. I can see that thing easily tearing or coming off if I played with my battery all the time (which I won't, just saying).

seems stupid that something so flimsy like that tab would void the warranty... imo

One rep doesn't make a vioded warranty. The most I have seen is that it isn't covered under warranty not that it truly voids it. So true the Mother would have to in theory get a new Droid X if she wants one with the Tab/slip there, but missing it doesn't make it a broken phone.

Re: Pull the tab marked "PULL" - void your warranty
I guess I'm going to be removing the battery as little as possible from now on.
I wish I could hot-swap the SD cards like on Blackberry, though.

The Palm Pre has the same tab...why was this not a problem then?

It doesn't say pull so maybe that lets you avoid false pulls? haha - 07-21-2010, 05:17 PM #15

Ok i'm one of the ppl who pulled the tab marked "pull". Go figure. To take your battery out, just smack the top of the phone into your palm. Do it hard. The battery will fall out.

I haven't read the slashdot article but some on, it seems like common sense that its all attached and even says don't cut.
But... if ya have an issue don't even mention its not there or you accidentally took it off. That simple. - 07-21-2010, 06:17 PM #19
That's BS man. My girl did the same thing. luckily for her she was just able to re-attach the tab immediately afterwards. I seriously doubt that pulling off a flimsy piece of plastic that says "pull" on it would void a warranty. thats like voiding the warranty on your iphone for holding it in the wrong hand...........wait a miniute??...

I would have no sympathy for the people who pulled this TAB off, if in the literature that came with the phone that they explained what it was for and about it..... but alas I looked through my tiny little books and they don't..
Still I think people might want to calm down and think before ripping things off a phone I would have stopped ripping that thing off as soon as I saw it was the entire area where the battery goes.. But that's just meHTC Rezound, IPad2, and Galaxy Tab 10.1

There are persons on the forum questioning whether this is real... Well, it is. I'm the wife - and I have an email from Motorolla CSR stating that their position is that the warranty is void. However, they do offer that I can send the phone in for them to review, but I was told this would likely just result in a confirmation of the same.
The reason given was this - "You have done physical damage to the phone. Physical damage voids the warranty." Everyone I have spoken to thus far has used this exact same line - Verizon and Motorola are in lock-step on this. - 07-21-2010, 08:59 PM #22

Re: Pull the tab marked "PULL" - void your warranty
I did the same thing and no I am not stupid. I obviously took it too literally but so did a lot of other people. I spoke with cs and they said if the fcc info is still intact the warranty is not void. If fcc info is disrupted, warranty is void.

TechWhore, where is this FCC info located? Is it a seal or something? Since my X didnt even come with a pull tab, I am assuming just popping the battery with credit card (as I had to do) wouldn't have dislodged/affected this FCC info?
