Is a restart the same as a battery pull?

If some app requires a restart, and you want to do it later, is a restart accomplished by holding down the power button and choosing power off, then turning it back on, or is a battery pull required?

If its just a regular restart, then just turn the power off and turn it back on. A hard restart would be pulling the battery

Agreed, but sadly something comes up when a hard reset has to be done. New phones still have some bugs to work out every once and a while :)

Battery pulling should be never required. These aren't blackberrys
Sadly it's been required on my wife's X 4 times since the 15th of July. Each time it's been first thing in the morning when she turns it on - it freezes on the Moto logo and nothing short of a battery pull works.

I'm hoping 2.2 update will rectify this issue but if it continues I may be asking them to exchange it for us. Her X is 99.9% totally stock (couple free dloads from market) - never rooted - nothing weird installed.
