email/text sound notification problem HELP!!!

Ok I want to change my email/text notification sounds that i downloaded. Sounds easy enough, right? thats what i thought but its not working.
1. open up my messaging folder
2.choose an email account.
3.opens account folder, press the far left hard key(4 squares?)
4. open email settings
5. open Notifications
6. open select ringtone
7. choose my ringtone/alert sound and press ok
8. it then shows on screen the selection.
9. then back out of screens.
10. HERES THE PROBLEM, IT WILL NOT SAVE THE SELECTION, NOR DOES IT HAVE A SAVE BUTTON, IT JUST MAKES YOU BACK OUT OF SCREENS.
11. if i go back into my email account where i just changed the sound notification, it shows the original/default alert.

WHY WONT THE PHONE SAVE MY SELECTIONS???? please help. nobody has been able to answer this question.

at least you are getting an email notification.......mine doesn't even notify me anymore!

Did anyone answer this ? I am curious to know. Why can't the text notification and email notification be different.

I was able to change email, gmail and text notifications to different "built-in" ringtones.

How was you able to do that? Is it only for stock ring tones?
