Unable to Remove Facebook account from Social Networking

Hi

I'm trying to remove my Facebook account from the Social Networking app since I'm not happy with how it adds all the contacts. Every time I try to do it I get an error saying it's unable to remove it - "An error has occurred. Please try again." Any ideas?

I've tried rebooting to no avail

I want to remove Facebook from my accounts as well. Something tells me that you would have to do a hard reset to do so.

You need to make sure everything that uses facebook is closed. That's especially including widgets.

They're all closed. I don't get it.

Is it because I rooted? I may just do a full wipe and start over. I'm annoyed seeing all sorts of contact info that I can't modify

I had exactly the same problem. I figured out how to do it. I'm not sure why it worked, but it does:

1) Activate airplane mode.
2) Attempt to delete the facebook account.
3) Error message will tell you to get better coverage.
4) Turn airplane mode off and QUICKLY go back and remove the facebook account.
5) "Poof" its gone.

i'm going to bump this back up to the top, i'm having the same issue on my d2. the airplane mode trick didn't work...

mine has done this same thing before. Unfortunatly what you have to do it go to your applications and remove the facebook app from your phone, then you can go back into your accounts and delete the account so it wont sync your contacts. That is what i had to do on my 2.1

so

1) uninstall facebook app
2) go to account and delete your account
3) reinstall your facebook app if you want to

I've removed the facebook app, and it still errors out when I try to remove the account. Tried rebooting, battery pull, airplane mode trick, still no go.

make sure you have any widgets (facebook phonebook, contacts with facebook pictures) taken off the homescreen. i remember i had a hard problem removing this, and i think it was the contacts that messed me up

Had this exact problem on my Droid 2, which is what killed it. I tried everything and the contacts were still there. And because there were so many of them, my phone locked up whenever it tried to load my contact list, and the battery got red hot. That's what made me exchange it for the Fascinate. :/ Good luck!

Can anyone tell me how I can sync pictures, phone numbers, etc with the facebook for android app? I go under settings and I see nothing about syncing.

I did still have some of those widgets, so i got rid of them all. still no luck. rebooted and still nothing. will most likely be doing a factory reset today.

The following is what worked for me:

1: File Manager
2: Mount as R/W
3: Navigate to System
4: Navigate to Apps
5: Navigate to Facebook app then LONG PRESS for menu
6: Select Delete
7: Close out of File Manager
8: Exhale in great relief.

If your having problems removing facebook account from accounts make sure your social networking sync is not set to sync only over wifi because if it is and your not on wifi it will give you an error when trying to remove the account. Or you can just connect to a wifi and it should work.

In my razr the setting is under \settings\datamanage\social applications

I got the airplane tirck to work. While trurning airplane mode off, i kept repeatedly trying top uninstall it. The connection came back and it still kept saying "no" but after I kept retrying (about two dozen times) it finally worked. bizarre...
