Can't sync with pc

For some reason I can't seem to get my new X to sync to my laptop. I have had two previous EVO's and one of the first X's to hit the stores and they all have had no problems syncing up. I have the phone on sync to pc, plug it in to the pc, HTC window up but nothing happens, things are grayed out so I can't click on anything. I'm almost sure I have something not checked on the phone. Any idea's from the Android family?
