Default What's up with the DX and random reboots?

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop my DX from randomly reboot 2-3 times a day? I've had this phone since the day it came out and it's getting annoying! I love this phone, and I'm running the OTA GB update from early this week. It did this before the update as well, so it's nothing new.

It happens completely randomly though...I play a game for awhile...it reboots, I try to answer a call...it locks up and reboots, using it for navigation... it locks up and reboots, I leave it sitting on my desk and work and suddenly..."DROOIDD!!"... yep, it rebooted!

I'll admit I don't shut it down often, but it's my everything phone, my alarm clock, etc. I close my apps, use Adv Task Killer when needed, but it seems to do this a lot during the day.

Should I go back to VZW and tell them I want a new phone, because these reboots always seem to occur at the worst possible times!

    Thanks

I used to get those on my BBs. Not having that issue, and haven't for 2 years on motors. You say nothing new and have had the X from launch? Nothing new? Now it's an issue? Man, I could never go that long until getting annoyed. I recommend a couple back to back factory resets, and load your Apps slowly seeing if one is a possible cause. Lol.

Try getting rid of advanced task killer first, then reboot and see how things go. Those task killers are useless and detrimental to our X's
I am now in the Galaxy Nexus member's club as of Aug 2012. Late to the party, but well before it shuts down!

    Any modifications to the phone?
It did this since you purchased, out of the box?
    Have you tried wiping cache?

****Edit: What Jerseyboy said, get rid of the Task killer.

Indeed they are not needed, but they aren't system crashers either.

Gingerbread is actually pretty good about killing BG process, much more than froyo was. It is worth a shot to remove it, let us know if that was it and what TK application was. I have used TK, for giggles, and could never crash my system. I always start fresh though, and wipe several times on new system roms, so my Os is inherently healthier than those that don't. *sigh*

I was having this problem as well until Wednesday. Before I downloaded GB, I did a factory reset. Seems to have cleared up the rebooting problem, but I'd try removing ATK first. It's a pain to get everything set up the same after a reset.

I started having a reboot issue after the OTA update. I've only noticed it while using Music Beta though. Not sure if its connected.

About ATK though, I tried going without it last week, and saw a huge perfomance drop on my phone. Lag when flipping homepages, keyboard lag, etc. I'm not sure that the sans-task killer approach that everyone seem to be advocating is the right solution for everyone...

i had this problem the week before I upgraded to gingerbread. I noticed this happening right after Google maps automatically updated itself and after using maps for about 1 minute. I joined Latitude and then it got worse. it would crash immediately as soon as maps opened, requiring a battery pull sometimes.

I say all that to let you know that it very likely could be an app or an update to an app, even one from Google itself. I keep auto updates for apps turned off. Although some ( Google apps) seem like they are turned on to update automatically by themselves.

Task Killers never really helped me at all ( with battery life) so I stopped using them.

    Hope this helps.

I had a factory defected device that did this and I returned it in a couple days for a brand new one and haven't had a problem since

I have occasional random reboots no idea what causes them, I don't use an auto task killer.

I can vouch for the Task Killer rebooting problem, I used to be not able to connect my phone to my computer via USB unless it rebooted, but I uninstalled Advanced Task Killer, then now i can connect it with no problems.

Just got back to this thread after a long weekend away...Thanks for all the responses! I just removed ATK from my DX, maybe that will help. I have honestly had it installed since the day I got the phone, so that very well may have been the problem all along.

And yes, I have been dealing with it all along, it kind of became an expected annoyance. My old Moto Q9c did the same thing, and I was told (by VZW) that it functioned like a computer and occasionally the memory needed to be flushed and refreshed. Up until I got my DX I was already doing battery pulls on my Q9c every other day, so my DX was a welcome change.

I think this is so funny because I experience reboots only when I do not have a Task Killer. I still say the issue with a Task Killer is that users try to use it to keep apps closed all the time they think shouldn't run instead of use it as designed, it is needed to close apps to recover memory from unused apps...

Task Killers get a bad rep because a number of users misunderstand how to use them because I have used ATK since I got my first Android device without issues...

Android by design will force-kill apps when needed. The big thing here to understand is that the Android system is better at determining when to kill a process rather than leaving it up to "Trigger Happy" users. For users to be able to use a Task Killer effectively you have to understand how Android works; Which it seems like you do. Most users who have a Task killer will not take the time to research how to properly use one and therefore I usually do not recommend one.

As a developer I have learned that software marketing is the best way to sell units, in a number of situations I have seen features work in the form reported but not in a optimized manner, just because a developer post a feature existing in their software does not mean it is the most effective way for the app to accomplish the task, this is why developers rewrite their software to implement new methods... Sometimes they make changes after another developer points out new ways to optimize the action.

I have experience reboots due to low memory when I allowed the OS to handle the task usage, but I have not experience one reboot while I have used ATK on my device..

If all developers advertise their product exactly as they know about it instead of work the information to make it appealing, they wouldn't ever sale anything

You gotta love "Marketing"! If your good at it (Marketing firms) then you can sell anything, that's why they get the big bucks!
