    Default [Help] Updating Custom Rom

I've looked around and couldnt really find a specific answer to my question. I pretty much just want to know if I am doing things right. This is my first Android phone and I have only been using it for about a month. I have rooted it and installed the Eclipse ROM on it. Everything works smooth. But now I am at the point where I just want to update the ROM to the latest version.

I have used Titanium backup to backup my apps and data. And ROM manager to backup the current ROM in case something goes wrong.

I have read that it is ideal to wipe data before installing new versions of a ROM. Does this mean reseting the phone back to factory settings? Or simply just the wipe data and cache option? And does wiping data or reseting back to factory settings mean formatting the SD card? If so, does that mean I have to save the Titanium backup elsewhere before wiping?

I have downloaded the latest version of Eclipse and saved it to my external SD card.

Now am I ready to start? If so, I would think that all I have to do is turn the phone off and go into recovery mode, wipe the data and cache (and reset to factory settings if I have to), and install the latest version of the custom ROM from the SD card. Then use Titanium backup to get all my apps and data back on the phone. Is there anything I am missing?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out with this. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.

You must wipe data, cache, davlik cache. This can all be done from the system recovery app before you flash the rom. If you don't wipe, you're in for some problems.

Note, I dont believe the rom manager is.compatible with our phones so I wouldnt use it if I were you. You can also create a backup from the system recovery app as well so you dont need a rom manager anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I wasnt patient enough for a response on here and just went ahead and wiped the data and all and updated the ROM last night. Worked perfectly. Now I wont be so hesitant to do it next time. lol. I have ran into some problems with ROM manager crashing. Maybe it wasnt ROM manager that I used. But I did make a backup of the rom somehow. I'll probably be deleting ROM manager now. Thanks again.

Rom manager is not compatible. You need bootstrap recovery, from which you can backup current rom, flash new ones, as well as wipe cache, factory reset etc. Im pretty sure you have it cuz that's what you need to flash roms in the first place, to my understanding anyways.

Yes, I have the bootstrap recovery, which is what I probably used to backup my ROM in the first place. I've looked into so many of these backup apps that I forget what I have used. lol
