Question Verizon has pushed 2.3.3 to Droid X but not the X2?

My coworker came over to me this morning asking what I thought of the new OS update. He showed me his Droid X and, sure enough, it is running 2.3.3. I saw that Verizon pushed the update to Droid X's on June 2, but apparently the X2 was not privy to the release. Does anyone have any information on this? We're (X2 users) still running 2.2.2.

from what I have noticed the 2.3 update for the Droid X merely puts em at where the X2 is with 2.2.2

I've played with a few coworkers phones who have done the update and honestly, I haven't noticed a single difference. my Moto rep seems to believe the X2 will bypass any further 2.- updates and go straight for a Android 3.0 but I highly doubt that.

What Moto did was put the gingerbread flavor of BLUR on a Froyo Droid X2. When the orig. X got its Gingerbread update, it's BLUR was updated to match the Droid X2.

Basically, Droid X is Gingerbread OS with gingerbread BLUR and Droid X2 is Froyo OS with Gingerbread BLUR. I think the current rumor is that when the X2 gets upgraded to Gingerbread, it will get the Newest version of BLUR that's been leaked in screenshots of the Moto Droid Bionic.

Manufacturer UI Overlays are so damn fun aren't they? :P

You do know that no phones are getting 3.0 right? It's a tablet only OS. Might want to get a new rep IMHO

They differences are there. The new audio stack with new extensions, the GUI (from what I've read) now uses the GPU to render it's self, and my benchmarking scores went up quite a bit. There are various other differences like the address book updates, which I LOVE. Also the entire file system was switched from YAFFS to the ext4 filesystem.

Here's the full list from wikipedia:

    2.3/2.3.3

    On 6 December 2010, the 2.3 (Gingerbread) SDK was released.[32] Changes included:[33]
System: Updated user interface design for simplicity and speed
Display: Support for extra-large screen sizes and resolutions (WXGA and higher)[31]
Internet calling: Native support for SIP VoIP telephony
Virtual Keyboard: Faster, more intuitive text input, improved accuracy, better suggested text. Voice input mode
Copy/Paste: Enhanced. Select a word by press-hold, copy, and paste.
Near Field Communication lets the user read an NFC tag embedded in a poster, sticker, or advertisement.
New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
System: Improved power management with a more active role in managing apps that are keeping the device awake for too long.
Download Manager gives the user easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email, or another application.
Camera: Access multiple cameras on the device, including a front-facing camera, if available.
Media: Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
System: Enhanced support for native code development
Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
Concurrent garbage collection for increased performance
Native support for more sensors (such as gyroscopes and barometers)
Switched from YAFFS to the ext4 filesystem[34]

IMO I believe the DX2 will receive GB 2.3.4 like the Bionic with the newest GingerBLUR. Can't say I have any reason why except that if they were going to push 2.3.3, wouldn't they have done that before they pushed it out to the DX? New device old SW, old device new SW? That will keep the masses happy, or maybe they think no one will notice since the UI is exactly the same on both now.

I will try to make a Long story short. Received an android x this past February, last month I got the dreaded line on the bottom of the screen. Since it’s under warranty Verizon sent out a ‘certified’ new phone. I noticed immediately that the os system was different. Verizon assured me it was an updated os. I loved this new system, phone book, battery life, ect. well on my account we were eligible for two upgrades. My mother n law who had the very first droid slide phone (a phone I had until this past February and hated) stopped working. Verizon has a BOGO right now and she wanted me to take advantage of this. So I got the new droid x2. I noticed right away that the OS was not the same as the droid x I just put away! Will the battery life be better than the x or the same? Should I still use the automatic task killer app on the x2? Any other helpful hints I would greatly appreciate! Thanks

I had my DX replaced with a DX2 under warranty. Using the same batteries, I find the DX2 battery life slightly worse. Overall, I liked the DX better. It had a much, much better display. The new display makes small fonts so pixelated if they are red or green that they are not readable. I plan to trade in the DX2 as soon as Verizon releases a decent phone, or as soon as I can jump to Sprint.

how can I explain this DroidX And DroidX2 are two different phones they only share the frame battery and name and that's it. So you can't run the same os. The X2. Has different processor different screen different memory. So it requires its own special os.

2.3.3 is for phones w/o front facing cameras. 2.3.4 supports front facing cameras and video chat. Neither Droid X/X2 have a front facing camera. There would be no point to getting 2.3.4 over 2.3.3.
