so my brothers motorola droid (which was a hand-me-down from when I originally bought it) has this problem... The bottom soft key lights light up, the LED flashes green for messages, it recieves/sends phone calls, but the screen does NOT light up... when I open the keyboard to try to turn it on it lights up just a little bit (enough that the screen isn't entirely black).

I've tried a hard reset, battery pulls, soft reset with the same results.

Is there anything else I can do to try to get this working? Asurion wants $80 from me in order to get a new phone but I wanna try to resolve this issue myself. Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thanks

I've been working with laptops for quite some time, and it sounds like a damaged backlight or inverter (power source for the backlight) this is a difficult repair (at best!) in a full sized laptop, I can't even imagine how tight the tolerances are to replace the part in a phone! Look into how much a replacement screen costs for it because you may not be able to replace the individual parts of the screen, and weigh that against $80 bucks to not have to deal with fixing it.

Keep in mind, the screen may not be the issue (i.e. you replace the screen perfectly and it's still having issues). Hope this helps make your decision!
