Stock 2.1 News and Weather Not Working

I recently downgraded my Droid from Froyo 2.2 back to stock 2.0.1 and then back to 2.1 standard. Now the stock News and Weather app/widget is not working and I can't figure out why. I have cleared the cache already so it isn't that. The widget says "Sorry, unable to connect. Please try Later" with a "Retry now" button. That doesn't work either. The News and Weather application does open but seconds later says "Sorry, network error. Please try later."

There are a couple older threads out there relating to this problem but they have been abandoned without solution. Please help!

I am having the exact same issue... I deleted the widget to move some stuff around, recreated it and thats when i started having the problem.

Now I can't delete it from my home screen. Any other method other than the tap, hold and drag?

Yes/ I was finally able to remove it by aligning the left edge of the widget with the trash can. Thanks.

It's a new day and my News and Weather still doesn't work as explained in the first post. I cant believe over 300 people have seen this thread and still nobody has an answer. Even though it isn't critical, the frustratrion is mounting.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that by going from Froyo 2.2 to stock 2.0.1 and reflashing my phone with RSD Lite does a complete factory wipe. I did have to reactivate the phone and set all my accounts up over again as if I pulled it out of the box for the first time.
