I've been through hell with my 2 BB Storms since buying them last December. If I go for the Droid will Verizon let me upgrade for the $199 price or is it $599?
I can't bear the thought of another year with this piece of crap and have become soured on the Blackberry.

It all depends on the sales person you get and how well you negotiate. The first price I was quoted was $517, the second one $372. I ended up paying $127 (after rebate). I was only 4 months into a 2 year contract.

If you've had two lines with them for a year you may be able to upgrade at the lower price. In my experience you'll get different answers depending on who you ask. Try calling *611 for customer service and tell them you're cancelling both of your lines. They will either transfer you to a retention specialist, or they will begin following a retention process for you. When they ask you "why" simply explain your troubles and tell them that the only way you'll stay is if you can change to a different phone. Offer to pay the upgrade charge and also extend your contract. Good luck.

I called customer service and talked to a rep there and she got the manager to approve the upgrade at the $199 price.

Would a Big Box store like Best-Buy be able to do this...or would I have to go through Verizon directly?
I have some rewards points to cash in at Best Buy.
However, I may have more sway with Verizon especially since i have a well documented history of trouble with my and my wife's Storms. We are each on our 3rd storm being exchanged for critical failures and the one i have now is giving crap.

Traprock, I went to a BestBuy with a early upgrade cupon that Verizon sent me. They would not/could not honor it. I think that the salesgirl I had was just being difficult, but I was able to upgrade one of my lines anyway, $199, no rebate.

NO SWAY NEEDED! If you've had it a year then you are eligible (with at least a 49/month plan) you are eligible for annual upgrade!

I got my Storm almost 11 months ago. I called Verizon with phone issues. They troubleshot it and decided to send me a new one. I said, I know it costs you guys money to do that. I'm eligible for my annual upgrade pricing the end of December. I'm going to be buying a DROID. If you want to bump my upgrade date, I'll buy it today. The technician agreed that that made sense. He talked to his supervisor and decided to give me the discount pricing a little over a month early.

I just made it a business proposal. There was no hassle at all.

That's where I am now. Just at 11+ months...not quite a year but me and the wife and a total of 6 storms going on 7, maybe they'll talk turkey.

I was about halfway through a two year contract (was actually with Alltel prior to their acquisition by V). I went online to "My Verizon" and upgraded to the Droid by extending my present contract for two years. My plan didn't include the data package required for the Droid so I added that but left everything else, including the 10 friends and family numbers that carried over from Alltel the same. My phone arrived via FedEx in two days. I got it for the advertised upgrade price of $199. Happy camper here!

If you have the annual (one year) upgrade here's the deal.

*You can only get the (one year) upgrade if you are the MAIN phone on the account.

*You can get the discounted price $199, but are not eligible for the NE2 discount.

*There is a $20 early upgrade charge.

*If you buy it in a store, you will have to pay $319.00 (with the $20 charge included, but tax not included), if you sent in the mail-in rebate you would get $100.00 back in the form of a Visa Credit Card.

*If you buy Online, you will get it for $219.00

Takes around 2-3 days for you to recieve your phone via Mail. Isn't the wait worth the $100 instant?

Updated

Unhappy update. I went to a Verizon store/service center gave them my storm which they replaced again. While they were activating it and had time to kill, I spoke with a CSR about my problems and having to have my seventh defective storm in less than a year. I didn't make any mention yet of wanting another phone but was hoping to get them to admit things were getting ridiculous with this phone. She did some checking on my history and said I'm stuck with them until August because somehow between the 2 lines I never had 3 go bad in 30 90 on the same line.
Seeing how the Storm is never going to work, I want a droid. If they could give me a Storm that worked I'd be happy to wait until next year to Upgrade.
Getting frustrated here and hoping Storm #7 doesn't have all the issues we've had.

IDK, my plan is $89 or so plus the data plans for 2 storms. Woman at the Verizon store said therir isn't anything I can do until August. I'm going to try the Verizon main line by Phone and see if I get a different answer.

ok,a quick rundown....the storm was considered a decent phone, basically they did the 5.0 update for it for all the cry baby ppl who are never satisfied with any phone or update. they did this days before the s2 launch. because they figured this would keep the ppl from calling and wanting the new s2. ya know what? the s1 with 5.0 is a decent phone.it is no droid, but its decent. now u still see ppl crying wanting something for nothing. wanting to get out of there s1 contracts. i paid full price for my droid, because thats life. i went thru 4 storms, and u know what? they always gave me a new one or helped me out with no questions. soooo suck it up and pay full price or stay with the decent s1 till u can upgrade. dont make a thread and expect ppl to feel sorry for u cuz u had 7 storms. dammmmmmmmmm.

My husband & I both got Storms in February. I called about the early upgrade and they told me I could upgrade only the main line to a Storm 2. I told them I wanted both upgraded and talked to a manager. I even convinced them to note my account so I could pick it up in the store. When I went there the salesperson asked if I really wanted a Storm 2 because the Droid was so much better. I told him I agreed but it was not buy 1 get 1 free. He talked to his manager and I left with 2 new Droids for $199!!
