My question is if we do get the 2.1, then what next? What is so innovative I have to get 2.1???
Motorola just announced at CES both Flash and Android 2.1 will be coming to the Droid with no exact dates mentioned. They also chimed in about the next maintenance update coming soon.
Anyone want to take bets on the release dates?
Oh, this reminds me of the endless Pre speculation about release dates! And then if/when VZW would have it...an impatient bunch we are. Christmas is coming. Just enjoy the wait.
...you can look at the Droid -- that device is 2.0, and this is 2.1. The day that launches, 2.1 will be available to us and we'll upgrade the Droid to 2.1. So the software feature sets will be available completely to us.
But yeah, you're right, I think that if all we do is use Google software... well, they have made that 2.0-to-2.1 a fairly simple transition, so we could do that very quickly.
It makes no sense to have a maintenance update, and then shortly after release a new OS build, because this will most likely cause the need for a second maintenance update.
Verizon indirect reps know less than Verizon reps do.
Anyway, I posted this at Hofo, and it makes more sense to me:

It makes more sense to get 2.1 out there, and then hit it with a maintenance update as time goes on. Less resources are wasted.

I was simply giving you information on what was said at the Motorola presentation at CES. That's where I was told about a maintenance release coming soon followed by 2.1. Take it for what it's worth.
Your info was correct and accurate. We appreciate your sharing it.
