There are a bunch of widgets/apps in the market that will show you some detailed info about your battery. I haven't tried them all, but I did have the Battery Percentage app which throws a battery percentage in your status bar. Not positive how specific it got, but I know I got a 2% warning once.

I'm pretty sure the firmware only reports increments of 10%. There are some widgets that will estimate what your level is at, but what the Android OS can receive from the moto firmware is not that exact.

The reason this is is because the way the events were written for the pulldown. If you look at the skins/themes there are several battery positions, 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, 15%, 10%, and dead. As other people are saying a battery app from the market will probably do you good. Try the batteryleft widget. It shows full 1% increments.
