Angry How to get replacement Droid from VZW??

I need some info please. Here is the deal, I dropped my droid last night and the antenna is jacked as in I dropped 2 calls today and go from 3g to 1x all the time...before I never did at all. I took it to VZW store and the stupid service person said I can't duplicate anything and I said its on 1x it can still do everything but I didn't have service for 2 hours earlier today. I have the warranty but I am not going to fork over $89 for a replacement, thats absurd. So...What do I need to do to my phone so when I go into the VZW store I walk out with a replacement?

    Thank you,
    Torrey

Is there visible damage from when it was dropped? If so I doubt they are going to take it back as a warranty repair. You can try to go to another store/salesman and try again with Verizon. You also can just pay the $89 since you did cause the damage.

Have you tried dialing *228 and then pressing option 2? This will update your roaming capabilities, and help keep you on a more stable connection.

I would honestly wait it out a few more days, maybe it was a fluke and happened to coincide with the fact that you dropped your phone, but I dont see them being related.

Personally I never go to a Verizon store, I always call their tech support (1-800-922-0204) and deal with them and have one shipped to me. They seem far more competent and generally more willing to help from my past experiences.

I pay enough for the service and for the additional warranty I am not paying $89 to get a replacement.

I will try the *228 and pressing 2...thanks!

Def totally different than Sprint, with Sprint it was go to the store to get help and get things taken care of and not call and this is the second time that somebody at the store was an *****...go figure lol.

Yeah the stores can be your best friend or worst enemy. With smart phones it is generally easiest to deal with it all over the phone, as they are better trained and have better resources to help with the issues.

Give *228 a shot, and also, try to forget you dropped it. Placebo affect may work...

lol..yah I will try and forget but I have noticed the touchscreen is a little more flimsy now too, not really too bad. I just was wondering what I would say or do to walk out of the store with a replacement, like if I dropped it in water and then took it in and say ok..duplicate this! would they then in return do the replacement?

Nah, water idea would not be a smart one

If you call customer service you can tell them about the call quality decrease and increase of dropped calls, but they will prob tell you the *228 thing as well. Also, since they have 2.1 on the way, they are going to try to delay people to try that before exchanging devices.

    prob right.

On the way....I just love that as 9 out 10 times it's pushed back and back Well I will just hold tight and see if tomorrow brings better reception. I am on call 24/7 so I can't have a phone with an attitude on whether I have service or not..lol.

Again...thanks for the help as I have asked other things before and never gotten a response. I appreciate it!

Never a problem, let us know how it works out for you!!!!!

Don't drop it in water. It's a sure way to get VZW to never touch your phone again (under warranty). All cellphones have water sensors that irreversibly change color when they come in contact with moisture. That will instantly void any warranty you have left.

ahh...that's right..forgot about that...good call!! Thanks!! I was just wondering what it would take to walk in and walk out with a replacement phone.

Go back in time and pay the 10 dollars for the 2 year accidental damage warranty.

Seriously though, see if the store you bought it from has any kind of basic warranty?

I'm guessing you just told them about the lost calls and worse reception, and not about the drop as well. But its good for you that you got a replacement. Wish I knew to call Verizon tech support back when I was having issues, may have saved me a few bucks, since I payed for a replacement I shouldn't have had to a while back.

    So similar problem...

I dropped my phone at the train station the other day. Fell flat on the screen side. The phone works perfectly. You wouldn't even know that it was dropped it works so perfectly. Except now there is a crack going from the top of the glass to the bottom. Extending beyond the led screen into the black parts of the glass. I'm going to go to the VZW store today and try to get it replaced. I have the insurance and everything. I unrooted and went back to stock. I deleted all the "root" apps. I backed everything up with a Nandroid backup. Hopefully they will replace the thing...

They'll probably tell you that you'll have to pay the replacement charges, because dropped phone damage is rarely something they'll just swap out for.

If they replace it, they are going to charge you. If you are lucky they will charge the $50 out of warranty replacement and not make you go through insurance for the replacement.

I just got my replacement phone for free from customer support. I gtold em a whole bunch of **** and they just sent me a new one, free!!! Thing is, verizon customer support has the manufacturers warranty that the stores don't. So the stores have to charge and u still only get a referbished phone. So always call customer support as its always free and they dnt c the damages. But u have to send the other phone back within 10 days, and if they see water damage or a big physical damage, they will charge u retail price for the phone.....I talk them into anything I want, verizon customer service is def the best...hope this helps.

Yeah they want me to pay the $89 deductible for the insurance replacement.
It's OK. I will have to live with my cracked screen for a couple weeks though since I'm moving and need all my money for the new place right now. Sucks, but at least the phone works perfectly and I'll get it replaced soon enough.

Please be careful about this, and please dont spread to the masses to try to rip Verizon off. Keep in mind, yeah you can tell them that the phone is ok and no water or physical damage, but if it gets back to them with it, guess what...your next cell phone bill includes a charge for the retail of the phone. So while you could have paid $89 to get a new one and not lied, you lie and then get stuck with $550. Hmmmm..

This does not happen.Getting charged the retail of the phone...lol

Anyways...do not rip off Verizon...if something is really wrong and you make it clear to them they will replace your phone...if you're being a whiner I hope they send you home with your original phone

I understand this much, there acually has to b something wrong to even bother wasting ur time trying to get a new phone in the first place as the phone is great as it is, def nothing like the storm and all its issues.there r also steps that they take with u to c exactly what the problem is. My issue was that the screen kept blacking out and when I took it to the store, they couldn't detect the phone to c what was wrong with it. With that said, you do have a 1 year manufacturers warranty, and if u do have a defect, that's what covers u. so if they're willing to replace the phone under they're Standards of what warrants that, than why not? My new phone was obviously dropped a couple of times as they painted over it and put new plastic over certain parts. Again, the store has to charge u, why get middle maned when u can go to the source?.....I dnt believe that they go out of they're way to charge u for a new phone unless its water damage or major physical damage. Like I said, verizon is by far the best sevice in both communication and customer support.

Well most of time I have been decent with Verizon. Only time I had an issue was with my Voyager having to pay 50 bucks because of "physical damage". Somehow one of the joints that flip the phone out, the plastic broke off that covered the metal that made the phone twist out. I had never dropped the phone even once at this point, and it had absolutely zero scratches on it. But they did not believe me at the store that the phone joint coulda broke under normal use. However in my case, it really did, as I treated that phone so damn good at the time lol. It had its own pocket and everything. I never stored it with anything else. And I didn't have a great case on it, but I did have a silicone based one, and being that I never dropped it, or had any scraches, I thought this one time they could have cut me a little slack. But it might have been I got a bad person on the wrong day, or something like that.

it doesnt happen? you really dont think verizon will charge you full retail of the device if you send them one back with physical damage or water damage? are you willing to try it, because I bet your bill will show otherwise

i was saying about water and physical damage. if you call them for a legit issue thats under mfg warranty, they will replace it for you free of charge, but if you call cuz of a cracked screen, lie and say its not working and they get it with a cracked screen, you will be charged.
