Default Droid is Engadget Smartphone and Gadget Device of the Year

Just checked out engadget, and apparently the Droid scored:

    Reader's Choice:
    Gadget of the Year
    Smartphone of the Year
    GPS Device of the Year

    Editors Choice:
    Gadget of the Year

    Pretty cool.

Hey, it even won the Editor's Choice of Gadget of the Year - but they did not pick it as the smartphone of the year.

Haha yeah, i'm surprised it even got that. As GenericMessage said, they are pretty apple-loving over there. Even more so than Giz - at least they admit it.

    Anyways thank god for democracy

No-where near as horrible as the BGR. Probably the biggest joke in tech sites ever.

True that. They beat the crap out of Droid and Android in general.

I'm really surprised. I expected 2000 or more iPhone votes to show up out of nowhere just before it ended. Anyway congrats to the Droid!

I checked it a couple times while it was running. The iPhone was out in front for Smartphone of the Year for a while. Looks like a last surge by Droid fans pushed it over the top.

Well thankfully it was the great product that went along with the great marketing.

As in Apples situation where its just good marketing and...........a product.

    Very interesting..

Well deserved considering the 3GS was not much of an upgrade.

i dont see the big deal about the droid.

what makes it better than a palm pre?

    besides the marketing of course..

    1. Bigger sharper Screen
    2. Quicker loading apps
    3. More consistent GPS, better Nav app.
    4. More apps to choose from
    5. Arguably better keyboard (not as cramped)
    6. Better onscreen keyboards
    7. Better network. Sprint is good, I had them, but Verizon provides more consistent 3g IMO.

I do love WebOS and see it as having lots of potential but IMO, the form factor of the Pre hindered it and it came out missing features that it should've had from the get go (Video recording / 3d capability etc).

I agree. The Pre could have been a stellar device, but some hardware features were screwed up while others were completely ignored. It should have been an all touchscreen device or side slider like the Droid. The Droid has proven to be a great device. I had my doubts about it at first, but now I see why it is a great device.

You must be lost, for you don't realize you are in a ANDROID forum.

Better hardware, better screen, more of a full featured phone, better performance, what else theirs a lot I had them both, the only thing I miss about the pre is multitasking, but even that was a headache at times. to many screens open with only one

i think the one handed concept palm went with is great, its easy for me to get on a bus and use my phone with one hand.

what i keep hearing over and over again is that the performance of the pre sucks, that simply isn't true. i've been using a pre for 8 months, and it is a fast phone..

    here's some proof: youtube.com/watch?v=S7FJj5-7vQI&feature=related
