Default Just got the Triumph after months with the V

    First impressions:

    1. Fast and smooth user interface
    2. Stronger wi-fi reception than the Optimus V
    3. Easier to type on (using either Android keyboard or Swype)
    4. Screen is beautiful
    5. Cell reception not as good so far, although I haven't activated yet in case I decide to return it. UPDATE: I changed the PRL to 01115 and at least in my office location, the signal is just as strong as on the Optimus V. Only thing is, the Triumph reports fewer bars, but when you look into the phone status at the signal strength, it is just as good. I also checked 3G speeds using just the cell data and got faster download speeds than I ever got on my Optimus V - though only marginally faster (10% to 33%).
    6. LOTS more internal memory for apps - I still have over 600 MB and I have installed everything I can think of. On the Optimus, it was a constant struggle to keep room for apps, even rooted I had to sometimes delete programs to make room for new ones.
    7. Back button sometimes hesitates.
    8. Easy to root with Gingerbreak 1.2

I love this phone so far. It feels good in the hand and is a joy for reading and viewing. Last remaining area of concern is the battery life, especially since it appears difficult to find an extended battery (at least in a quick Amazon check). I can't wait to get a gingerbread ROM on it!

Now who wants to buy my OV?

I've had mine since July 19th and I couldn't be happier with it. I must have gotten lucky because I haven't had any of the hardware issues that many people have reported. That being said, my reception does seem to be not as good as my wife's Optimus; she always seems to have a stronger signal and can make calls in some places where I can't. I should have time to do a PRL swap today to see if that helps.

As far as battery life, with a little bit of smart battery management, I can make mine last just as long as hers, if not longer.

I know about battery management from the V. An unfortunate necessity with most android phones.

If I can iron out reception problems with a PRL switch and 3g turns out to be good, this might be a keeper. It feels good in the hand, it is light but well made and between the screen and the speed I am happy so far. Deal breakers would be reception and battery life if they turn out to suck.

I would love to hear from others.

Update: rooted with gingerbreak. Waiting for CWM and some good custom ROMs.
Great to hear you're enjoying the Triumph

Even if you activate/pay for a month, you can cancel and obtain a refund--especially since you have the Optimus. I gave up on 3 Triumphs because of the poor connectivity (voice/data) and just deactivated/shifted the $25 to my Optimus. Easy call with VMUSA CSR. The GPS.conf patch fixed my GPS woes, but nothing helped with the issues surrounding connectivity and button-responsiveness.

Give it a shot, just don't make too many calls/texts, in case the CSR complains you've already used your account beyond testing purposes

So i went to take my triumph back today, i have exchanged it 4 times with in 30 days and i went today and they said i couldnt exchange it or get my money back. So if you exchange it, its from the day you buy the first one, so dont exchange return them and buy it again. this is crap. So now im stuck with a phone that doesnt work thanks a lot bestbuy.

Call VM. They'll send you a new one for free under the 1yr warranty. Just be sure to emphasize that it isn't working. As a nice bonus, they overnight it so you get it as soon as the next day.

My gps seems fine, by the way. Just worried about battery life and signal reception at the moment. Overall, I think it is a step up from the V and I will probably keep it.

I just got my Triumph less than a week ago. A birthday present to myself (69th). My first Android phone was an LG Ally with Verizon, and those people about ran me into the ground, so I switched to Virgin Mobile and for money reasons picked a LG Rumor Touch. After about 3 weeks, I was going into Android withdrawal. The LG Ally was a decent entry level phone, but lacked much of what I have seen others comment on.

The night before I bought my Triumph, I saw an interview with the man who runs the Android operation at Google, and he made up my mind. I went for the best, and I am very happy I did. I work at Best Buy and got many good comments from fellow employees there too about this phone.

So far, I can not find a thing to complain about. I get good phone operation and data too. At home it connects with my wi-fi and that helps, I would think. Thinking of the V, that was my other and cheaper choice, but I saw it pretty much as the VM version of my Ally.

    Yep.
They had to replace my Intercept 2x and it was overnighted both times.
They send you a prepaid envelope in the box where you send back your non working phone.
Once you get the new one, just do a usual phone swap and you're all set.

Best buy did that to me too. Not gonna buy stuff from there anymore... I had to get another phone from virgin mobile. They told me quote "Best buy CAN'T not take it back, they have to." They actually told me to walk in the store and tell them that too, and if they don't, just call em back and they'll handle it.

I sell appliances for Best Buy and with them we have had a 30 day return policy, but would use some judgement in regards to the situation. I know that my store is very customer oriented. But, just a week or so ago, headquarters sent down a new rule that with the stuff I sell, the limit of 30 days is hard and firm, no leeway. I gather that for many electronic items it is 14 days. Same thing.
Not the customer friendly atmosphere I am used to, but I understand they are tightening up their financial side. They also cut back on some of our employee discounts too. Business is getting tough.

I had a customer today who's 1 week old refrigerator died a very early death. Really strange. Since it is under the 30 days, no problem. She also had the maintenance plan, so it would be taken care of in any event.

I wish I could give you better news on this.

    [QUOTE=lwlamar;1191400]First impressions:

    1. Fast and smooth user interface UPDATE: after 5 days, it is starting to become a little sluggish.
    2. Stronger wi-fi reception than the Optimus V UPDATE: no problems connecting to wi-fi, connection is fast.
    3. Easier to type on (using either Android keyboard or Swype) Still agree with this, especially love Swype.
    4. Screen is beautiful Still agree with this, it is beautiful, plenty big enough and very responsive.
    5. Cell reception not as good so far, although I haven't activated yet in case I decide to return it. UPDATE: I changed the PRL to 01115 and at least in my office location, the signal is just as strong as on the Optimus V. I also checked 3G speeds using just the cell data and got faster download speeds than I ever got on my Optimus V - though only marginally faster (10% to 33%). UPDATE: I remain satisfied with cell reception now that I have the 01115 PRL.
    6. LOTS more internal memory for apps - I still have over 600 MB and I have installed everything I can think of. On the Optimus, it was a constant struggle to keep room for apps, even rooted I had to sometimes delete programs to make room for new ones.

UPDATE: using Juice Defender, battery life is fine. Under heavy 3G use with browsing and downloads, the battery drains pretty quickly, but in standby with occasional phone call, text or email, with light surfing, I am seeing it last all day so far.

I don't have a Triumph yet but I have lived in peace with my beloved OV for 6 months now and the best maintainence app I found was System Control Panel ( paid ver. $2.99 ) I will give you all the resources to take care of that Triumph and well worth it. Also, to fix your keyboard problem (which I had too) just download the free Gingerbread Keyboard app. Make it your default keyboard in your settings after the download, and don't fool with the other two. I have problems with wifi too, so I don't use it as much, but changing the PRL should fix the connectivity issues depending on your area. Be careful about rooting a brand new phone, VM will not help you AT ALL if it's rooted. For ANYTHING! Good luck.
