Factory reset/OTA Updates after root

Rooted my X after the 2.2 OTA update, and haven't deleted or altered anything except add Titanium backup and AdFree. Since doing so a few questions have popped up, I've looked through the forums and could not find the answer, so forgive me if I over looked it.

#1 What happens when you do a factory reset on a rooted phone? Does it restore it back to stock 2.2 without SU, or worse?

#2 What happens if Verizon pushes a patch/update on a rooted phone? Does it reset it back to stock once it updates or does it fail it's checks/balances and cancels the update? I've read somewhere that if you haven't deleted or altered the stock apps that come with the phone that it should pass, is that true?

Thanks in advance, and forgive me please if these questions are answered somewhere else, I looked but couldn't find 100% definitive answers.

Good thing i read multiple threads before i ask questions. I was curious about that myself. This is the first time i have rooted a phone and i dont want to have to do it all over again just because of a patch.
