So, like an idiot, I rooted my phone on 2.1 and didn't unroot before updating to the official 2.2. Now that I'm trying to unroot (doing a factory reset this time around) it will say that it is unrooted (easy root) but the SU app is still there. I searched and couldn't find anything that was helpful, but any advice would be great. Would I have to flash back to 2.1 to be able to unroot smoothly? I'm out of ideas. Thanks guys in advance.

Do not flash back to 2.1 this will brick your phone.
In order to get rid of the Superuser app you need to be root.
I suggest re-rooting with the droid 2 method to put everything back in place. You may have to do the manual adb method as the easy apps will likely not know the state you phone is in.

There's no way to unroot 2.2? I'm thinking about rooting for Drocap and Titanium Backup, but maybe not if I wouldn't be able to unroot.

Why even bother unrooting? From my experience, the vz techs no about as much as my jitterbug using gma when it comes to rooting. They haven't been able to tell rooted from unrooted in the past.. im sure you'll be fine.

- open your trusty terminal app
- you should see a $ symbol, now do the following
- su
- now you should see a # symbol
- mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
- rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
- rm /system/bin/su
* rm /system/bin/busybox
- mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
- reboot your phone. Toda, no more root

you can also use Root Explorer to delete those files. That's the way I did it before sending my phone to vzw.
uninstall root explorer like any other app when done.
