There hasn't been any official reason reported but I am assuming Verizon or Motorola had something to do with it like I think they did with easyroot... I haven't checked but they may have a donation area on the developer post over at XDA, you can check there, it is a very simple app that does just what it said with a nice clean simple interface. I am using 1-2-3 Droid 2 Root from darkonion which is a easy installation as well but Z4 Root is for the new android users looking to root.
They pulled it yesterday but I do not know what time, if you installed it and all is working then you should be fine but if you want to play it safe and you havent used app yet then download another copy for original post in first post then you know there isnt any issues, besides the one on market now does not seem to work on rooting any device, so if you are using it chances are your device wont be rooted because you used it.Last edited by wildman; 11-17-2010 at 11:09 AM.

Who was the developer of the fake? I downloaded z4root on the 13th and haven't used it yet, but the developer of mine is RyanZA and it is Version 1.2.1 & an 885KB file.

i see there are in fact 2 different z4root apps showing in the market. there is the official which i seem to have installed and another with what looks like chinese characters in the title. i would say judging by the comments the one with the chinese characters in the title is indeed the fake. i think im all set, but thanks alot for the warning!

I asked this in a different thread, but no one has answered yet.
If I root with z4root and leave everything stock (I just want to root mainly for wireless tether & possibly freezing apps like Skype that I don't use & automatically start up) will I need to worry about unrooting or doing anything else to get future OTA updates or will they come as normal? Again, I will be leaving everything stock."They don't think it be like it is, but it do." -Oscar Gamble

I think this will depend on the authentication process that is written in the update, some looks for curtain files being unchanged and others search deeper into the code... I would say its wise to convert back before doing any updates because it can lead to issues at times.
You are correct it would be the Chinese one, actually I didn't realize that they place the original one back on the market as well (Thanks for pointing this out) because it wasn't there earlier... Whoever wants it better get it while they can, that's the pattern they did before they totally pulled easyroot. I got my copy backed up.

Thank you.
I just have one last Newbie question and then I am done, I promise. :-)
Does anyone know if the Droid X has the "netfilter-enabled kernel" that Wireless Tether needs to work?"They don't think it be like it is, but it do." -Oscar Gamble

Do not use the stock browsers app because it will fail to download every time, I use Opera Mobile and it downloads without issues.. And as for downloading from other sources I wouldn't risk it because the app access a level of security that I wouldn't want to wonder if the source is untouched. Especially when the developer is allowing access to a reliable source, try Opera Mobile or a PC browser, I haven't had any issues downloading the apps.

Hi, I'm pretty new to this and not sure yet if I want to root my X yet. I might in the future. So I downloaded the z4 root apk file from Xda developers from the link in this thread to my PC. If I transfer it onto my sd card on the phone for future use, is there anything else I need to download to open the file to load it? Does it just load from pressing on the apk file? Like I said I'm new to android, so please excuse me not knowing much on how this works.

If you don't already have one you might want to download a file manager from the app market, my favorite is Super Manager, to make finding the .apk easier and other than that all you need to do is go to settings, applications, and enable Unknown Sources.
Then when your ready just open the file manager, find the file and install.Nokia 6xxx >> Motorola i710 >> Motorola Razr >> BB 9000 >> BB 9700 >> Nexus One >> Droid X >> Thunderbolt
