2 QUESTIONS...IF SOMEONE COULD HELP PLEASE?
I finally got one of the links to work on p4. Installation is completed.
Question? Can I delete the zipped folder from my SD card after the update?
And should I use the OTA update when it finally gets pushed to my phone and delete this one or would you just keep this one. I know their both the same but should I keep one over the other...any differences?
Thanks in advance. - 12-09-2010, 08:59 PM #128

Sorry for all the newb questions but...
Since this update has flash preinstalled into the phone. Do I delete the one I previously downloaded from the market? - 12-09-2010, 09:17 PM #131Thanked by:

Thanks. That's why I asked. I was in the market and noticed the update. Just double checking. Thanks again.

I'm having some problems with this. I was rooted, themed, running custom rom, etc, but wanted to get up to date. I downloaded and flashed 928's back-to-stock 2.2 without issue. Problem came in when it came time to apply the update.zip found here. I downloaded the 340update.zip file to my mac a few times, but it kept automatically opening it to a folder every time and not leaving it zipped. Finally I just compressed it myself, renamed it update.zip, dropped it on the root of the SD. I just tried flashing it via stock recovery and it said update failed. When it booted out of that it dropped me into clockwork. I figured what the hell and tried to flash it from there, too, but it still wouldn't take and locked up on the install. Then I took the folder that downloaded to my mac and renamed it update.zip and tried just dropping that onto my SD. Again, no good. It said e-signature failed. Anyone have any idead?

I am rooted with factory ROM, running system version 2.3.15. When copying the update.zip to the root of the sd card and trying the update it fails. When trying the ota update, I get the message "check for update was not available at this time. Try again later." Has anyone else run into either issue I am facing, please help.

if you want the update, or OTA, you need to be on stock 2.3.15. All Blur, Bloat also needs to be on your device. If you made a nandroid backup before putting a custom rom/theme, then all you need to do is flash that backup and your set. did you make a backup? if not, you'll need to find another path to apply a system update.

hey bald steve --
if you are using safari, go to preferences > select the general tab > uncheck the "open 'safe' files after downloading" radio button; this will prevent safari from automatically unzipping the download.
i'm not sure about firefox/opera/chrome. let us know if that doesn't work!
HTH!

Ahhhhh, thanks! I'm on Safari, so I'll try this later.
928's return-to-stock-ota-odexed did the right thing in getting me back to stock in that all bloat was there and the system build number is VZW, but the weird part is that after I go through the Android setup it kicks me right into ADW, which installed with RubiX (I"m an LPP guy and have never even used it). I'm doing full data/cache wipes, format system, mount/system installs, too. Anyway, I just flashed my nandroid and deleted ADW in Root Explorer, so hopefully that will correct this. - 12-10-2010, 12:08 PM #141
Is the update the same as the zip from yesterday? if not what's the best method to flash back so the new official can be installed?

Running stock but rooted, ive gotten the OTA update this morning and it failed during install 3 times. Now the OTA is not available?? Tried doing it manually from the SD card but it still fails. Any ideas?
Do you have to unroot first? I dont understand why it wouldnt work on a stock DX?? - 12-10-2010, 04:50 PM #144

Update on my saga: I'm a dumb@$$. I flashed back to my nandroid with 2.3.15 and RubiX 1.9 and deleted ADW, having forgotten that I had deleted the stock blur Home launcher. I flashed 928's back to stock 2.2 OTA and bricked it hard. Ha ha ha. I keep an sbf of 2.1 around for these emergencies, so I fired up rsd lite, connected the pricey paperweight, flashed 2.1 and was back in business. The cool thing was that once I got back in and checked the system info there was an alert telling me there was a system upgrade available - 2.2.340. I downloaded, installed and voila - 2.2.340 OTA. Yeah! However...
Root was no more. I scoured the web for info and everyone said that you needed Z4root to do it, but try as I might I just couldn't get it to work. Either the download would stop shortly after starting with a message stating that "this type of content isn't permitted", or the apk would download and when I tried to open it said, "unable to parse file". WTF, right?!?!?! Anyway, more research...then more research until I found a guy on XDA stating that Z4root would work on the latest OTA as long as you used version 1.1.0, which he was kind enough to attach. Downloaded, installed, ran, and got root back. From there it was a matter of reinstalling all my apps and data via titanium, which went off without a hitch.
BUT, the first thing I did after re-obtaining root was to hit clockwork and make a nandroid of 2.2.340 as is with nothing done so I'll have it if I need it when Gingerbread drops. I don't want to deal with this again. - 12-12-2010, 02:44 PM #148
Tried the OTA Zip file, but couldnt get it to install
finally went with the droid .320 format system, mount system, install from zip meothod with .320 and now have that running fine.
is there a zip that would work for that method with .340? would the same method work with the OTA zip i already grabbed from here?
is there any significant difference between the 2 that i should be worried about updating (power amp seems to be broken so im hoping .340 fixes that) - 12-12-2010, 03:54 PM #149
