I installed the leaked froyo that came out back in sept. I am interested in upgrading to a newer version of froyo. So I would like to know how this works. Do I need to downgrade to 2.1 (using the 2.1 sbf file) before I can get the newer versions, or can I go directly to the latest version by using a 2.2 sbf file?

As long as you have the 2.2 that is 244mb unzipped then you can flash it directly to the phone. It does not require anything special as it is a full update that will bring your phone back to stock.
