This is directed to the number of ?Titanium Backup? users out in the wild, since devices are getting updated regurlly and also new devices are released almost every day which always leaves the door open to getting a device that temporarily doesn?t have the required root access needed to restore apps and data from a number of apps like Titanium Backup. So how many users have planned ahead for a future update or device upgrade? A large amount of user live in the wonderful world of being rooted which is a heavenly place to be but there is one major concern that I believe these users haven?t took into thought, what if the device cant be rooted?

Lets say that a new update is released tonight or a sweet deal comes available for a recent released device that does not have a root process available yet (I say yet, because we all know that the wonderful developers here as well as a number of other knowledgeable sites will usually resolve that situation quick enough). But until then what will you do to transfer your data and apps? Without root access Titanium Backup (App of Chose by many rooted users) can not restore your information or settings? So now what do you do? Google and Backup Assistance only backup selective apps and data and isn?t no way as complete as ?Titanium Backup???. Hmmmmm?

There is a number of options that the user can do but these options have to be given consideration before the original device gets wiped or updated.

Here is a number of popular apps used by a number of users through out the forums and maybe they will be helpful to others.

1. MyBackup Pro https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&feature=search_result ? Backup and restores a large amount of settings and all the apps on the device.

2. Astro File Explorer https://market.android.com/details?id=com.metago.astro&feature=search_result - Allows user to backup original apps from the device and save them an .apk form on SD Card to be sideloaded back onto the device later (But can not back up any personal data.)

3. ES File Explorer https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&feature=search_result ? Functions the same as Astro File Explorer.

4. SMS Backup and Restore https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result ? Allows as name implies. Allows backup and restore of SMS and MMS messages.

There is also a popular option to backup to a website by the name of AppBrain Top Android Apps and Games in the Android Market | AppBrain.com, I can not verify ths method because I have never used this site but it has been reported to be a very useful method to restore apps that was originally on device but I do not believe that it can backup or restore any personal information or settings but I am unclear of the sites restrictions.

Now with these ideals I hope that it gives you some food for thought, a rooted device is a wonderful thing and the apps made for rooted devices are even more a dream but I was just wondering what is other users solution on restoring your devices apps and personal data if your device lost root today?

Please share your thoughts on a working solution and which apps would be useful for this situation because I believe this can be some handy information for a number of users.

Found me a nice backup solution, it works incredibly well. It is a bit slower but works just as well as Titanium Backup... Since the official GB should be here soon (I Hope) I decided to go back stock and I decided to try Sprite Backup out and it does work well. Just wished the restore option had ability to install single item like MyBackup..
