Permanently Delete E-Mail

Silly question, but how can I empty the trash in my G-Mail app, or selectively delete email messages?

The app automatically saves the trash for 30 days by default. It can't be changed. You would have to log into your Gmail account from the browser to empty the trash.

You can always use an alternative email app (such as K9). K9 allows you to empty the trash immediately by long-pressing on the email account and selecting "Empty Trash".

So if I go online into my Gmail and AOLmail and empty the trash, will that take the deleted email messages permanently off my Android phone??
