Wifi Issue - Obtaining IP Address

Hi there, I've been unable to connect my Xoom to my home Wifi network. My Xoom detects the network, and sees it as having "excellent" strength, but when I hit connect, I get a message saying "obtaining IP address", and then, nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you restarted your router?

Yep, just tried it, no luck. My laptop, printer and other items on the network are all back up and running. Any other thoughts? And, thanks for the help!

Do you have enough IP addresses available? You may need to expand your DHCP so that you can hand out more IP's.

Yep, I believe so, from my router settings:

DHCP Range: 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253
Allocated: 10
Available: 180

I've got 9 devices running at present. Thanks again!

Did the Xoom synchronize your wifi settings from another Android device? If not, are you sure you entered the correct password/key?

It may be worth entering some info in manually and trying it to make sure there is not an issue with your Wifi. What I do would do is this. I do not have my Xoom in front of me but there should be a way you can enter in information manually.

Enter 192.168.1.253 as your IP address.
Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0 (You can check this in the router config page as well)
Gateway 192.168.1.1(?) Whatever your router page is

DNS: you will need to pull this info out of the router config page enter these in.

After doing these steps see if you can browse the internet. If you can't you may be having an issue with your Wifi on your Xoom.

It was a case of simple user error.

unable to access via wifi

Any help would be much appreciated.

I can access wifi without issue UNTIL i try and access my own wifi at home.

If I do automatica (DHCP) it will connect but I do not get data packets. (no internet access). On my other computers I get data packets so this is not an issue with the wifi or indeed the motorola xoom (because i can access other wifi connections).

I have tried changing to static and inputting.

Example. my other computers static and working fine

192.168.1.7
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.220

8.8.4.4
8.8.8.8

Therefore, logic would tell me if i forced the MX with below but won't connect at all. Have tried

192.168.1.8
255.255.255.0
24 (network prefix length)

8.8.4.4
8.8.8.8

Above, it isnt even interested in connectings. Whereas when automatic it connects but no data packets (no internet access).

My wifi setttings are

medium (WEP 64bits)
and yep putting in the correct password.

I am at a complete loss. If someone can see the obvious I would be extremely thankful. Regards Sheepy

Are you inputting the Default Gateway when it is static? The only other thing I can think of is that with DHCP you are not sending which DNS you are supposed to be using. Otherwise I am not too sure whats going on, I may need to sit and think on this one.

Hmmm your gateway should be whatever your connecting to. So if its your router it would be 192.168.1.1. The 24 network prefix length is correct this would mean that it would take the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 since it is 192.168.1.1/24.

I'm having the same issues with my router at home. I imagine I will use similar settings, but am not 100% sure and wondered what steps I can use to determine the proper settings to create the static IP. Thanks.

You will use similar settings correct. Please login to your router at home and post what your DHCP range is. Most of your settings though are probably going to look like this

Static IP: 192.168.1.150 - Just pick something out of your DHCP Range of this. So if your DHCP range is 1.10 - 1.25, you can just use 192.168.1.26 (static ip)
