yes, mine goes part black on the right side.. I believe its normal.

Are you talking about the right hand side having a fade to black affect? If so, I think it is supposed to do that.

Mine doesn't whine at all. You may have a bad one

When you touch in the notifications area of fades put that side of the screen touch elsewhere it will go away. Built in feature talked about in the honeycomb users manual
