Just got my Nest Thermostat yesterday. Very easy installation and setup (minus the time it took to enter my long wifi password :P So far I like it.

My home heating is in two zones - upstairs and downstairs. That's two thermostats.

I find the Nest curiously interesting, but not $500 worth of interesting...

Yeah, with Zoned HVAC it is ridiculous on the Cost. Have you checked on nest.com to see if your Gas and/or electric offers a free nest or rebate?

The best I can do there is Direct Energy to whom I would have to pay nearly 3 cents more per kWh than I do now. We are not a heavy electrical user (heat, hot water, clothes dryer and cooking are all natural gas); even so, that 3 cents would cost me a bunch of dollars ($15 - $20) per month...
