"I see you sell this phone (slips out N4 and waves it about nonchalantly)... Could you tell me where the cases are in the shop please?

Shop assistant (through gritted teeth and looking like he'd like to ram it down my throat): "no cases for this I'm afraid. It's too new..."

Knew what the answer would be but just couldn't resist...

Does that make me a cruel person? Yeah thought so. Meh, s#"t happens.

i find myself exposing the back side of the phone intentionally to people so they can see it is the new nexus. otherwise it is hard to differentiate to the untrained eye

I do the same thing especially when sitting next to anyone using an S3!
I was surprised a VZW rep knew it was an N4 by just seeing the front.
