    Default Screen protector necessary?

Ok, so I feel like such a dummy because I've had the phone for like a month but I haven't taken the original "screen protector" off yet. It looks ridiculous and isn't as pleasant as the naked glass, but I'm so paranoid that I'm going to scratch it! I never had a real problem with scratches on my Droid Inc, and I've got my Nexus 4 in a loose leather pouch. Do you think a screen protector is necessary or is the glass pretty resilient? Oh, and I've got a Ringke Slim to protect the back (not a bad case, by the way!)

Don't worry, I'm still staring at my original "screen protector" with + - and power sign. You are not the only dummy here. : )

For me personally, I will have a screen protector for the front. Not for the back ( yes, some ppl do put a screen protector on the back of the phone). I like my screen to have no scratch, so I will put a

    screen protector.

Whether a screen protector is necessary depends on how you treat your phones. If you’re confident in your ability to keep the screen safe, then don’t use one. If you’re paranoid about it, then going ahead and get one.

I’ve not used a screen protector since the days of resistive screens. My 2 previous phones, HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S II, never had a screen protector on. No scratches at all.

Regardless of what you do with the screen, I’d suggest some sort of protection for the back of the phone. The glass there is different from the glass up front. It scratches very easily. If you look at it the wrong way, it’ll scratch.

I’d recommend the skins from dbrand. Check out AndroidCentral’s review of them.

You honestly should be fine without one. I used to have a screen protector but couldn't stand the rubbery/nonglass feeling and just took it off. Assuming you're not exposing your phone to sand, you generally should be okay. I just always make sure to put my phone in the pocket that doesn't have anything that would have a better chance of scratching it (i.e. keys). Been about 3 months without one, still pristine.

I don't have one and I've had my phone since December. I don't put it in my pocket either. I carry it in a case on my belt and have had no problems.

I ordered a screen protector but haven't installed it yet because the one that came with the N4 is fine. I'll probably leave it on until the edges start to peel and then replace it with the one I ordered.

I was also a dummy for about three weeks.

Cover started to come off, so I had to do something. Followed this video:

Brought a three pack of protectors, but actually did it right first time! Make sure your device is spotless when you apply the protector. I got one spec of dust behind the protector so have one bubble, but that's above the screen so I can't see it most of the time.

It's works well when you put them on horizontally rather than vertically. And use the Sleve, that comes with it.And cleaning cloth.

My Nexus 4 is supposed to arrive today!

Is the consensus that I don't need a screen protector if I'm careful with my phone (which I am)? I did get the bumper case from Google, but I don't really want to put a screen protector on.

Screen protectors aren't necessary for this phone imo. If you want anti-glare though, I would see why. Other than that, i had mines since december still with no scratches. I even tested the sensitivity of my screen by scratching it with keys and coins. No clue about the glass back though since its always covered in a case and never exposed. Just get a good phone case and you're good to go!

I do use a screen protector (from shopandroid.com) for my tablet, but not for my phone. The glass is strong enough to resist scratches from light everyday stuff, but a drop, impact with keys, etc. will still hurt it. Think of a screen protector like chain mail... absorbs very little blunt force, but does great protection against slashing attacks.
