so i rooted my phone few days ago and everything was fine until there was an update for 4.2.1. I went ahead and applied update, however i cannot no longer open play store and other app such as 4shared, zedge and other app that required root. I tried to root again but it doesn't fix the problem.

I came here to post the same thing! I installed the update via zip file, and now Light Flow wont work at all, and Titanium backup has no root access.

Did you save root before you flashed? If not did you make a nandroid before you flashed? If you did not save root, flash the backup and use root keeper.

Try clearing the data and cache of the apps that aren't working.. Go to each one under Settings, Apps, All, scroll to them each.

See above, and re-root just like you rooted the first time, see the Root It tab in my guide.

I noticed the same thing, after I just rooted my phone and decided to go ahead and let the update apply. Root checker was reporting that I didn't have root and nothing was being prompted for permissions.

I simply went back into fastboot/recovery and reinstalled the SuperSU and rebooted. Got root back!

I use OTA Rootkeeper and seems to preserve root through all OTAs. Just need to run the app and restore root. Worked fine with 4.2.1

Hi. I've rooted my Nexus 4 with mskip's Toolkit and am on 4.2. What is the easiest way to update to 4.2.1 without losing root and without using the OTA Rootkeeper app? I am using TWRP recovery. Thanks.
Use the app or reroot it, there is no 3rd option, lol.
