If you are moving overseas, WiFi calling using Hangouts works great (unless you are in China, where many Google services are blocked). You don't need anything special other than the app and a WiFi connection.

I did this while traveling last summer through several countries in Asia.

If you are blocked or Google tries to charge you for the calls, use a VPN to make your Hangout calls appear to originate in the US and you'll be golden for free calls back to the US.

I have exactly the same scenario along with iPhones that are on the network in the house with no issues. Called Google Tech support who offered NO help whatsoever. T-Mobile is trying to lend some sort of assistance but remind me that this isn't a phone that they've provisioned. I then replied that it DOES in fact work well when the feature is available.

Ditto! I am using a T-Mobile supplied wifi router too, so I suspect it's not a router issue.
