Nexus 6P - Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

It doesn't grow on you.. It's annoying and reason why I returned the phone

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

With the Google Adopted case, it was an issue. Since I got my Supcase, haven't had any issues at all with accidentally pressing the button.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

My only real hardware complaint, as well. Terrible button placement. The rest of my beefs are with Google. 6P is otherwise a great phone.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Agree, I also got a supcase and this is no longer an issue.

I kinda agree here. If they insist on keeping the buttons on one side, I feel like the buttons should be moved up a bit. The Volume Up button should be where the Power button is, and both volume buttons should be spaced out a bit, to differentiate between them.

I find myself hitting the power button when I want to increase the volume on music, which is a bit annoying.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Me too. It's my first phablet but I had no interest in attempting to use it one handed. I've been using my previous phone for 3+ years. Maybe I just need some deprogramming. I thought the fingerprint scanner was going to be my biggest problem, but that turned out kinda natural for me.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I have to agree too, I don't have as much of a problem when I grab the phone but when I put my phone into my car mount the mount grabs the phone right where the buttons are and changes my volume.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I got over the location, just used to being on the left side but I agree about that the two should be more apart.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I think it makes sense. If it were higher people would complain they could not reach them. I think it's in the perfect spot.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Once I got my Supcase, that location did not bother me at all. No issues since then, volime stays the same and even tripod sticks clamps aren't an issue.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I also hate the placement, I dislike it so much I'm watching what comes out and considering switching to another phone. It's a classic example of a single design flaw wiping out 1000 other great design decisions. It's impossible for me to hold the phone comfortably and it all could have been solved by placing the buttons higher.

For me the power and volume buttons are the things you want to reach for (a little), so you are not constantly hitting them accidentally. I agree with you, there is no satisfying everyone on this issue. Most phones though seem to do a much better job IMO.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Just in case it helps anyone else who posted, here's an app I'm trying to see if it makes it better. It allows the volume slider to be locked (or not) on a by system basis, that is voice, media etc. It's a trade off, because now you need to swipe down on the screen to disable it and adjust volume. But it at least allows me to hold the phone comfortably while having a conversation, my finger can be pressing on the volume without changing it.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

What case did you get for your 6p? I got a Hama transparent back but still hit the volume key inadvertently all the time!

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Crashguard bumper fixed this problem for me. 0 issues now with new bumper case.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I'm surprised to see so many gripes about the power and volume buttons. These were a selling point for me, I find their placement perfect.

They are a natural reach with the thumb when holding the phone in my right hand. Any higher I would find awkward.

It's the finger scanner at the back I would have preferred at the bottom middle of the front where I think it belongs like on some of the other models, but I now I am getting used to it...

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

I don't like the location but what makes it worse is how easy it is to press.

Re: Biggest Gripe: Power/Volume Button Location

Being left-handed occasionally has its advantages, owning this phone is one of them. The power button and the volume rocker is in the perfect location for my middle finger.

I know this post is old but I wanted to chime in and say that after almost 6 months this is still my biggest gripe with this phone.
