Has anyone got the Verizon Visual Voice Mail app to work on the Nexus 6p yet?

I can't get it to work on my Nexus 6P... I even tried upgrading from the basic Visual Voicemail by adding the premium voicemail feature to my account for $2.99 a month, and it still doesn't work for me.

I know there is Google Voice but I don't want to have my number forwarded or moved over to Google Voice... I prefer just to use my Verizon number with their visual voicemail app.

EDIT: There is currently no Visual Voice Mail app that works for the Nexus 6P on Verizon, at least not for Verizon's voicemail service. However, as tech_head below has pointed out, you can forward just your unanswered calls to Google Voice number and use the Google Voice app for VVM by doing the following:

1. Go to https://www.google.com/voice to setup your Google Voice on your Google account if you haven't already done so.

2. Install Google Voice on you phone from play store and set up to use for VVM.

3. From the Google Voice web site select your Google Voice number to edit the settings... on the Voicemail & Text tab record your greeting... then go to back to the main page -> select edit button under your cell number -> Show advanced settings -> forwarding options Click "go straight to voicemail" radio button. (This will send all calls forwarded from your cell to your Google Voice number directly to voicemail). http://www.techerator.com/2009/10/how-to-prevent-extra-rings-using-google-voice-as-voicemail/

4. On your phone dial *71+(Your Google Voice Number) to forward all unanswered calls to Google Voice. (To stop forwarding calls to dial *73 from your phone.) http://www.verizon.com/businessportals/support/features/calling_features/no_answer_transfer.html

The is currently no VVM on the 6P that integrates with Verizon VM.
If you use GV you do not need to move your number to Google. The only thing you do is forward if not answered to GV to record your message.
You can unforward at any time. It's controlled on the phone.
I use it and it just works.

Use the visual voicemail built into the dialer you have open dialer go to settings---> calls---> voicemail then switch it on works great

Are you using this feature on Verizon? I ask because I don't have any option in the location you stated to turn on visual voicemail.

The only options in that location I have are:
Service
Setup
Sound
Vibrate

I just got done talking to Verizon support and it looks like Visual Voice Mail Nexus app by Verizon will not work on the 6P right now because the 6P does not show up in there system. They also don't have support for the "Native" Visual Voice Mail built into the dialer of Marshmallow.

I contacted Verizon because I thought maybe I had to add the standard Visual Voice Mail ($2.99) feature to my account instead of the Premium Visual Voice Mail which is also $2.99... the standard feature was not an option when I was looking at my account online. The standard feature didn't work either. The support rep tried researching to see if there was anyway to get it working, but in the end she couldn't find a solution because the 6P doesn't show up in their system.

I'll try Google Voice... I thought I had to have all call forwarded to GV, not just unanswered ones.

Nope. it just forward unanswered ones to GV for announcing your message and recording callers message.

I cant imaging paying $2.99 for voicemail when google voice offers it free.

Yeah no kidding I'm not going to ever pay for it again... forwarding unanswered calls to GV works just as good I think, plus you get voice to text for free too!

Just make sure that you have GV go directly to VM on forwarded calls, otherwise you get about 8 rings. 8-(

Click "go straight to voicemail" radio button.

Do I need a Google Voice number to use the Voicemail function. I've been trying to use GV for VM, it just doesn't work it keeps telling me that Verizon will automatically turn it on and I have to do it manually and when I click on Google Voice hell there is nothing on there to help me. Thanks.

No, you don't.

First, Since it's Verizon, you'll need to install the Google Voice app: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...android.apps.googlevoice&hl=en&token=JCewYO2Z

Once it's installed, run it and set it to check voice mails only. Then go into the settings (three dots in the bottom right corner in the app) and make sure you check off the option "Voicemail display". This will show your voicemails in the dialer app otherwise you'll have to keep going into the Google Voice app. If you want to see the transcribed messages, you'll need to go into the Google Voice app, for some reason on Verizon, it won't show the transcribed messages in the dialer app, you can only listen to them.

Next, log into https://www.google.com/voice, look to the left and you'll see your access number, it's a Google voice number that is automatically assigned to you when you sing up. This is the number you'll forward your calls to. So in other words, if your GV number is (518) 555-1212 then on your cell phone you'll do:

1. *73 (then press dial). This will remove any other call forwards you may have set up.
2. *715185551212 (replace the 5185551212 part with the google voice access number in your account and then press send)

That's really all you need to do to turn on the forward on your cell phone.

On the GV side (again, https://www.google.com/voice), go into settings and make sure your cell phone number is added to the Phone list, if not, add it there. It should send you a message to your phone to verify it.

Google Voice worked for voicemails.. But switched over to YouMail cause a realtor friend recommended it to me. There's way more features and cool cause I can also share my messages. It uses call forwarding too, so set up is similar to GV

Not sure how YouMail works but, you can also share your voice mails in Google Voice as well. You can email them as an audio attachment.

That's what I said.

Actually, the only drawback is that even with this option enabled, the caller still hears 5 more rings AFTER the phone has stopped ringing (or you dismiss the call). It's almost as if it does the standard number of call rings AFTER the actual call rings have stopped.
I tested this myself using my work phone to call my personal phone. If I call my Google Voice number forwarded to my VZW phone, then the number of rings are normal before going to voicemail.
Simply put, it seems that when you use GV for your VZW number, the call is going to your VZW number followed by a call to your GV number. It rings enough for both (despite "direct to VM" being selected).

UPDATE: Turns out this was resolved by activating Google Voice as my voicemail service in the voicemail settings, not just with the GV app or site. Those who have VZW that said the setting is not there...it is. Where it says "your carrier" as the voicemail service, tap on it and the pop up will have GV as an option. Select it and you will get an error message, but it enables it anyway. Maybe it's because I already had the GV app set up on the phone, I don't know.
Point is, the call now goes to voicemail after the phone stops ringing.

That's not how it works on my phone with Google Voice... I have the forwarding options under my cell number in GV set to go directly to voicemail, so when my cell phone stops ringing it goes directly to voicemail and does not continue to ring the Google Voice number.

The other way you can do this is set your Google Voice number to Do Not Disturb if you don't use that number for anything else. I prefer the other method above though.

The typical thing way to fix this is:
Go to Google Voice in your browser:
settings -> (go to the mobile number) click "edit" -> "show advanced settings" -> go down to forwarding options and click "go straight to voicemail".

This will eliminate all rings from a number forwarded to GV.

As I said in my post, it was doing this even with "straight to voicemail" enabled.
Setting GV as my VM service on the phone solved it. It also made it so the basic visual voicemail works on the phone too (no text but can play message without opening GV app).
