Camera app won't let me change HDR, flash, slow motion, or timer

Hey everybody, been awhile since I've been on here, but I have an issue on my Nexus 6p, when I open the camera app, maybe I want to use flash, or disable HDR when taking a picture, or if I want to take a video, if I want to use slow motion recording or have flash in the video, using the little HUD buttons won't do anything when i open the stock camera app. Sometimes I have to repeatedly open up settings, exit out, try pressing the flash, hdr, timer, or slow motion buttons, if nothing changes, then repeat until they finally do work. Unfortunately, if it works on the video side, and I switch to the picture taking side, half the time the camera app will force close itself, and I have to resort to doing this whole process all over again. Is there a fix for this?
