I decided to install Preview 5 of Android N. I had tried a previous preview and it was a mess but I figured this one is so close to release it might be fine. One of my goals was to get bluetooth to work in my car again.

Recap of what I and similar to what others are experiencing: In Android M (6.0.1), my car would connect for about the first 30-60 seconds of a call, then disconnect during a call and sometimes remain disconnected or randomly reconnect and disconnect throughout the call. It made bluetooth calling impossible. Someone did post a possible fix where you could disable contact sharing and it would remain connected (didn't work for me though).

It looks like Android N has fixed the problem! I have made three calls over the past couple days since installing Preview 5 and all of them remain connected normally. I do have contact sharing off because I don't use it anyway.

I'm not going to start the official celebration until the final version of N is released and it still works. So far, the most annoying problem with my Nexus seems to be fixed.

Caveat: this is my experience on my 2010 VW. It may or may not work on your car. There seems to be a lot variety in automotive bluetooth calling.

Hmmm...i was starting to think it might be a hardware issue, at least in my case. Because I tried all the software things that are supposed to help, with no luck.

But I just moved to the Droid Z Force which also has marshmallow, and have had no issues at all.

I had a glitch with it yesterday. Disconnected twice like it used to do. We'll see if that was just a minor occurrence or if it's all back to square one. Maybe I should just buy a new car. ;)

I know that for my car and my phone developer preview 5 did fix the annoying Bluetooth connectivity issue. Car is a 2014 civic si with Honda Link.

Good idea to get a new car, emissions might be affecting your bluetooth connection!! :D....(only kidding!)

Good one. ☺️ I don't have a diesel but if I did... New car!

I hope the final build of N solves this once and for all.

Day after day whenever j get phone calls though the Honda Link Bluetooth car system it is now transferring the calls into the cars Bluetooth system successfully, and the Bluetooth audio is good, finally!

Husband has the 6p and it connects to the car (Auris) perfectly. That is, until he puts VeryFit 2 or FitBit on. When he does the car sits saying "connecting" and although he can make a call he knows that in exactly 30 seconds it will drop the bluetooth. Even not having the app connected to the fitbit or other health tracker it still does this, just the very act of having these apps installed.
He has tried stock Android, various roms and also Nougat, none of which solve the problem. These apps work perfectly well on my stock S7E.
Is there a likelihood that the hardware is faulty on the phone?

I've never had bluetooth issues on my 6P/Ford's Sync 2/My Ford Touch. It has always streamed music perfectly, and made/received calls. I hope it remains this way for Nougat, and hope it fixes problems for everyone else!

I had this issue with both the 6P and Samsung S7 Edge while I was using a Microsoft Band 2. When I turned that off and uninstalled it's supporting app, in both cases it was sorted out. I think you're onto something here with fitness trackers. Note that I have an Android Wear watch on me so it's not any device using Bluetooth.

Hello.. Did you find any fix for this Bluetooth with car bug..? I am on official Android 7.0 release and facing this issue with my 6P..

Phone connects to Bluetooth then disconnects in few seconds while playing songs / during phone call.. incoming call doesn't ring in car.. and also the 'accept' button on car doesn't work.. I have to accept call from my phone. And once call is active, outgoing or incoming call, it keeps disconnecting always and joining back. So I will be talking on bluetooth for few seconds and on phone for few seconds and it keeps going on like this. Also, though I can start plating music but it will stop after few seconds.. so effectively cannot use it. So I think problem is of frequent disconnection with bluetooth and connecting back again which causes disruption.

When I use other Bluetooth headset, it all works fine for calls and music which is surprising.. so problem occurs only with my car bluetooth.

I don't have anything new on this problem. It seems to be working most of the time for me but I don't have a Bluetooth music connection. The phone connection works most of the time. I think it's a per-car basis. I would at least call your car dealer and ask if there are any firmware updates.

My connection to my car's been terrible since the update. The track info and time remaining doesn't seem to show up anymore since the release in both my car and wife's car, which are different manufacturers. I also seem to have more connection issues since the release.

Has anyone who's been experiencing the problem since the OS update tried rolling back to 6.0.1? That would likely involve a firmware flash, which would require a Factory Reset, but it would be a good data point.

My car is so old that it has a cassette player, so I don't have to worry about any of these problems.

Hello all,

Since the android update 6.0.1, I had issues with my bluetooth car connection (like everyone else on this forum..). I restarted my phone (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact) in safe mode https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/td-p/348008 and I tried to reconnect, and it works. No issues at all. I restarted my phone in normal mode en everythings seems right now.
If you don't know how to start in safe mode, Google is your best friend.

I hope that this can help you as well.

Good luck!

I've been having this issue with my Mazda 3 skyactiv. After the software update on my Mazda and android, now only the audio connects, but it keeps saying Unable to connect to phone profile. Anyone has an idea how to fix this issue. I tried someone else's phone, it worked, but with mine it didn't. I'm frustrated!

You tried someone else's Nexus 6P, or a different manufacturer? If the former, you need to find out what their setup is; if the latter, well, Bluetooth appears to be a crapshoot on Android.

Well, I tried it with ano there type of phone. I really can't seem to find the problem. I tried deleting the cache, and it doesn't work. So frustrating!

Feb update broke my BT again with my 2015 Toyota Highlander. I'm so fed up. It used to work perfectly with early versions of Marshmallow.
