phone auto dims but won't snap back

My screen is automatically dimming, but won't snap back.

Just reset my phone, regular brightness, but even as I am typing this, it goes dark and I can barely see the screen at full brightness. This is rendering the phone useless outdoors right now (can't catch my pokemon!!)

Reset it a dozen times, adaptive brightness is off. I need help!!

When you say that the screen is automatically dimming, does that happen at the timeout value selected in Settings -> Display -> Sleep? (The screen normally dims somewhat prior to that timeout, but if you touch the screen it should return to normal brightness and reset the timer.)

And interacting with the screen doesn't cause it to return to the default brightness?

Do you have a screen protector installed?

Sorry, it's not. i'm usin gth ephone and it just all goes dark. screen shots taken and sent are super dark as well

i will be doing a factory reset.

That will be a good start, although you could try booting into Safe Mode first.

Be sure that after you do a Factory Reset you don't reload all of your apps - check out the behavior first to eliminate a possible 3rd party app causing the problem you described.
