photographs taken at night

I've had my 6p now for 3 months and really enjoy using it. I read some reviews about the 6p camera before I got it and one of the reasons I liked it was it was supposed to take very good night time shots. Now I am not sure what I am doing wrong but when I take a photo, the night shots are really dark. I usually shoot in auto mode but have tried other settings and they still come out dark. I am really disappointed with the 6p. Day time shots are very good tho. Even my Lumia 930 took better night photos than the 6p.

For night shots, you'll need to make sure that HDR+ is on... if that is enabled, there really isn't a better phone on the market for those types of shots. If the phone is on auto mode, it should show a check mark if its in HDR+ mode. Otherwise, turn it on.

What's the issue with the pictures?

(just because I like 'em, here's one of the night shots I snagged with my 6P)

I have tried using HDR+. Here's a one with the typical outcome.

I've had more LeoRex results with HDR+ on. That said, if all you have is the light from a pool this is pretty much what you will get regardless of the cell phone you use. This thing isn't a miracle worker. If you still had your trusty 930 to compare to this we might actually be able to get somewhere.

Ok here's another. When taking a night shot I always have to edit it making the photo lighter. My brother had a lumia 830 which took better night shots

I had to go back to March to find a picture at night

(okay, technically it's evening - hopefully that qualifies). I have lots of daylight pictures in shaded areas, and even in fog, but I just don't shoot much at night. (It being dark and all, I can't really see anyway.)

Not sure what to tell you. The next time I see a Lumia 830 will be the first time. I would take that photo right there and keep my 6P before I would have anything to do with a Lumia 830.

Here's a night shot I took with my 6P. Aside from the strange light dot below/right from the moon, I'm happy with the shot. I don't take many night photos with the phone but the ones I have take come out nice. I use my Nikon if I need higher quality.

Taken in Oslo. My wife's a photographer. This one shows her standing there with her Canon 5D Mark IV ... I love pointing out to here how good my photos from the 6P are compared to the 5D!! Of course, the 5D can do much more but for everyday snapshots like this, the 6P is great.
