Has anyone else experienced the problem of losing root access on nexus 7 after flashing? I'm running smooth rom 4.4 and anytime I try to flash something or even enter recover and just reboot I lose root privileges and have to restore back up?

Any ROM you're flashing should be rooted. Make sure you are wiping fully before flashing any new ROM. Steps should be:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe system
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash ROM and GApps
Reboot.

I figured out the problem. It was superuser the whole time. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it from play store and got root access back. Weird how this happened.
