If your date is around 1/7/1980 and has some random time frame, you will need to correct your system time. Correcting the time is easy and fixes multiple issues with your phone such as accessing the market and gmail over wifi.

1) Go to System -> Applications
2) Allow Unknown Sources and confirm.
3) Open your phone's browser and click this link


Cause
When people travel with the VM Optimus Elite, they may notice an incorrect system time and date. From what I've seen through logcat, this phone requires a data connection/service in order to correctly display time.
